YAKIMA — Montesano’s April Easter and Katie Ayers entered Friday’s opening rounds of the state 1A girls tennis doubles tournament with some momentum, but couldn’t capitalize.
The Bulldogs No. 1 doubles team entered Friday’s play undefeated and as District IV champions, but were eliminated in two matches at West Valley High School in Yakima.
Easter-Ayers lost to Forest Ridge’s Julia Mayner-Olivia Cero 7-5, 6-2 in the opening round. In the first round of the consolation bracket, the Monte duo were eliminated 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 by Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls’ Taylor More-Sonja Marikis.
State 2A Track &Field
TACOMA — Aberdeen’s Kyle Hurd made his first career appearance at the state 2A track &field meet on Thursday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
Hurd, the lone qualifier from Aberdeen, finished 16th overall in the state 2A 1,600-meter run at 4:36.30. Hurd qualified third out of the District IV 2A meet last weekend.
East Valley-Spokane’s Scott Kopczynski won the event at 4:15.96.
