John “Jack” Martin Foshaug was born in Aberdeen on Feb. 27, 1923, to Martin and Ethel Foshaug. He died Thursday, July 13, 2017, in McCleary, Wash.

A lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Jack grew up in the Wishkah Valley and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1941. He then began an auto mechanics apprenticeship at Bigelow Cheverolet. In February 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served proudly in the South Pacific. While in the Philippines in 1945 when the war ended, he transferred to Tokyo, Japan, and served eight months there before returning home.

After returning from the “Big War,” he met and fell head over heels for the love of his life, Rose Leacock, and they married on March 22, 1947.

Jack then completed his automotive apprenticeship and continued working at the Chevrolet dealer for many years and was well known as the “go-to guy” for any automotive engine problems. He retired from Duane DeWees motors in 1997.

Jack was first and foremost a devoted father and family man, who spent every minute possible with family and friends. His passions in life were hunting and fishing with sons, Steve, Ken, and Dennis, and daughter Chris. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved and learned from him.

He was a kind and gentle man, who never had a bad word toward anyone and was loved by all. He will never be forgotten.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Rose in 2011 and his son Dennis. He is survived by sons Steve and wife Nadine of Arizona and Ken, Aberdeen; a daughter Christine Foshaug, Aberdeen; a daughter-in-law: Laura Foshaug, Hoquiam; and five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home. Private interment will take place in Fern Hill Cemetery. A reception for friends and family will be held in the Dorothy Mann Reception Room at the funeral home.
