Kerry was born in Aberdeen, Wash. on May 5, 1959, to Earl and Dorothy Anderson, both of whom predeceased him. Kerry attended school in Hoquiam, Wash. and was in the graduating class of 1978. After high school Kerry began his commercial fishing career in Westport, Wash. He began deck-handing for his father when he was six-years old on the charter boat Sea King and then on the Stardust when it was launched in 1968. He loved life on the sea and worked with his brother Norm trawling in Washington, Oregon, California, and Alaska on the Blue Water, Margaret Lynn, Silver Chalice and Barbara Lee until 1986. In 1986, he captained the factory trawler Pacific Trawler in the Bering Sea until 1994. In 1995, he switched careers and began driving commercial trucks and tankers.

Kerry fell in love with Tanya and she set the hook with marriage following in 2002. Kerry retired at a young age. He was passionate about salmon fishing, spending time with family and friends, and giving back to his community through extensive volunteer work.
