A full-size pickup failed to negotiate a curve while traveling at a high rate of speed southbound in the 900 block of Broadway Avenue in Hoquiam just before 5 p.m. Wednesday and crashed into a garage at a nearby residence, according to Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers.
Myers said the driver appeared not to brake as the truck drifted off to the right on a sharp left turn. After the truck went off the roadway it went through a ditch and hit the corner of the garage. The truck spun into the driveway, the rolled across the road. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was caught several blocks away by the first responding officer.
As of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday officers were trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors. The driver’s license was found to be suspended and he was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for possible injuries. The passenger in the truck refused medical treatment, said Myers.
The garage suffered extensive damage, according to Myers, and the impact of the crash moved sidways a vehicle that was parked inside the garage. No one in the home was injured.
