Aberdeen dominated singles play to come away with a 4-2 victory over Chehalis in an Evergreen 2A Conference match at Sam Benn Courts on Monday.
The Bobcats (3-1) dropped just one set in the three singles matches to earn three team points and got a key point from the No. 3 doubles team to secure the victory.
Aberdeen’s Ryan Solan rebounded from losing the first set to come back and lose just one game over the final two sets to pull out a, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1, win in the No. 1 singles spot. Luis Garcia and Harlan Troy each won their match in straight sets, while the doubles team of Aaron Larson and Patric Haerle came from behind to win, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
“Without Ryan’s first set there, the rest of it was just domination,” Aberdeen coach Andy Duffy said of the singles play. “(Solan) had a real slow start, but he finally put it together in the second and third set to win the match. He was really tight and he didn’t need to be. I just told him he needed to stop playing the other guys game and play his. Just start stepping it up and play your game and it seemed to work.”
While Duffy said he was proud of all of his singles players, he said the doubles win was a pleasant surprise.
“(Larson and Haerle) put together some good tennis,” Duffy said. “They played smart and it was good win for them and a good win for us as a team. We are about four games from being undefeated and I like where we are heading.”
Aberdeen travels to Lacey to take on River Ridge today.
