Sept. 20, 1941
Wishkah High School celebrated the debut of Tony Gasparovich as football coach by outscoring Moclips 13-6 in a Tri-County league contest. It was the first time in seven years that Wishkah has been able to beat Moclips.
Tommy Spaur scored all of Wishkah’s points.
In the third quarter Moclips passed to the one-yard line where Jim Koontz scored. The conversion was wide.

Over their air targets in Vietnam, U.S. Air Force pilots depend upon men like M-Sgt. Jordan Heartso to keep the aircrafts’ 7.62 mm Gatling-type guns ready to spew 6,000 rounds a minute at Viet Cong targets.
Heartso, a 1946 graduate of Ocosta High School, is a weapons maintenance supervisor at the regional maintenance depot at Nha Trang which is responsible for all major repairs and helps maintain the central supply depot for the “miniguns” throughout the area.

• Nineteen-year-old Jerry Burton Eaton of Central Park was killed yesterday afternoon while setting chokers at a Keith Green Logging Co. operation about 26 miles from Forks. He was born in Aberdeen and had lived on the Harbor all of his life.

Nothing about energetic, gregarious 13-year-old Windy Phillips Deubel belies what’s happening inside her head.
A tumor is growing in her brain. But doctors are working to stop that.
The Miller Junior High seventh-grader began radiation therapy last week at Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
Just over six months ago, she underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove the growth. It covered nearly a quarter of her brain and the surgeons were able to remove 99 percent of the cancer.
Although she missed 48 days of school last year, she kept up with her studies with the help of tutors. She was thrilled that she was able to attend a couple of days of junior high before heading up to Seattle for radiation treatment.

• A Harbor woman who has been involved in feeding the hungry and producing children’s plays for the Driftwood Theatre, has been chosen “Community Builder” for August by the sponsoring KXRO and Grays Harbor Chamber of Commerce.
Nominated for the award by Dorothye Logue, Jane Mezera is known for her work with the Feed the Hungry program at St. Mary’s Center and her work with children.
As recipient of the award Mezera will receive a dinner for two at Bridges Restaurant and an overnight stay at the Lytle House in Hoquiam, courtesy of Robert and Dayna Bencals.
• The defense may still be ahead of the offense, but it made little difference last night at Aberdeen rolled past Mark Morris, 42-0 in its 1991 home football debut at Stewart Field.
Interception returns by Don Marbut and Justin Walker were the big plays as AHS’ defense put the game’s first 16 points on the board.
And an all-reserve unit drove to the game’s final score and made history of sorts when Charles Ladd became the first Aberdeen freshman in recent memory to score a varsity touchdown.
