Donald Ditz, a 55 year Harbor resident, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, in Olympia.

Donald Ditz, a 55-year Harbor resident, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, in Olympia. He was 90. Don was born April 11, 1927, in Chehalis to Joseph and Mary (Faulkner) Ditz. Don spent most of his younger years in Chehalis, with short periods in Pe Ell and Tacoma. He graduated form Chehalis High School in 1945.

Don did a delayed enlistment in the Marines and was on a train the day after high school graduation for basic training in California. He got out of boot camp the day the war ended.

Don attended college at Oregon State, Portland State and St. Martins; with degrees in Business and Forestry.

He married Alice Karitis on June 11, 1955, in Raymond. She passed away Dec. 10, 2012.

Don worked for Weyerhaeuser for 30 years and retired as a check scaler, at age 55.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Don hunted deer and elk in his younger years, but his favorite quarry was pheasant with some duck hunting. He also enjoyed fishing and clam digging. Don and Alice spent many days at the beach, in the woods picking mushrooms and blackberries, and floating local rivers. He had a nice garden and a well-maintained lawn. Don loved to watch local high school football, baseball and basketball games. He followed the Seahawks and Mariners and went to Spring Training when they wintered in Arizona, with friends. He loved his family, friends and pets.

Don is survived by son Dan (Raiann Morse) of Elma, Dave (Janice Jones) of Hoquiam; brother John (Joyce) Ditz of Seattle and brother Tom (Nita) Ditz of Alabama.
