A fire in downtown Aberdeen caused significant damage to what used to be Rosevear’s Music Center on the corner of South H and Wishkah Streets Monday night. While there was building damage, no one was injured in the fire, which took place on the second floor.
The Aberdeen and Hoquiam Fire Departments responded to the fire shortly after 6:30 p.m., and had been tipped off by a witness who noticed fire emanating from the building’s second floor office.
Upon arrival, firefighters were able to subdue the fire in just over a half hour. The building suffered an estimated $4,000 worth of damage, but it would have been much worse had the witness not reported the fire, the Aberdeen Fire Department wrote in a statement.
A total of 10 firefighters responded in one command unit vehicle, four firetrucks and one medic unit.
The cause of the fire was most likely several overloaded extension cords, which were bunched together in a long string, fire officials said. The department recommended that people avoid overloading power strips, and only use extension cords for temporary purposes.
