Hoquiam Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff has proclaimed Saturday, March 10, Grays Harbor Hawks Day in honor of the county’s Special Olympics team.
The date coincides with the club’s 10th annual celebrity basketball game, pitting the Hawks against a team of local “celebrities,” coached by Dickhoff herself. The event begins at noon at Hoquiam Square Garden and features the game, raffles and the Hoquiam High School pep band. Tickets are $5 each.
The proclamation states the Grays Harbor Hawks Special Olympics team includes 136 athletes who, through practices and competition, “develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
