Gulls fly by Vikings

RAYMOND — In a Pacific 2B League opener, Raymond’s offense kept rival Willapa Valley on the defensive en route to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-18 win on Thursday night.

Mikayla Collins led the Gulls with 15 kills, three blocks and nine digs, while Aubree Gardner added nine kills and 18 digs and Maddie Murray had 18 digs and four kills off the bench.

“Mikayla had a heck of a night offensively,” Raymond head coach Bob Swogger said. “She saw the court well and hit the ball where they weren’t from the back row. It was probably one of her best night.”

“Raymond is a solid team and they hit at us all game long,” Valley head coach Lori Snodgrass added. “We are still trying to find team consistency. We’re working on that.”

Brooke Friese was cited for her hustle and overall play and Sidney Pollard was cited for setting.

On Tuesday, Willapa Valley (0-1, 2-5) hosts Life Christian Academy. On Thursday, Raymond (1-0, 6-1) travels to Life Christian Academy.

Wildcats sweep Hyaks

OYEHUT — Ocosta used solid service and quality passing to sweep North Beach 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-17) in a Pacific 2B League match at the House of Pain on Thursday.

The Wildcats (1-0, 6-1) were led offensively by Kaylee Barnum, who finished with 17 kills and 10 digs, and Erika Snider, who added eight kills. Evalyn Marsh was perfect in service for the Wildcats, while Snider scored five aces in the match.

“Nobody missed more than one serve,” Ocosta coach Barbara Rasmus said. “We were passing really well and that makes it so much nicer to get a hit.”

North Beach’s Nettie Fruh sat out much of the first two sets nursing an injury and the Hyaks struggled without her in the lineup. Fruh finished the match with nine digs and five kills.

“The chemistry that we have been building the past weeks was gone that first game,” North Beach Jessica Preisinger We kept getting better, but we couldn’t dig ourselves out of that whole.”

Preisinger cited Mimi Johnson, who finished with 10 digs, for her play in the back row. Adelina Desamours was a perfect 10-for-10 in service and Hannah Avery finished with 90 percent passing on the night for the Hyaks.

Ocosta hosts Ilwaco on Tuesday, while North Beach (0-1, 2-4) travels to Chief Leschi on Tuesday.

Indians sweep Fishermen

ILWACO — South Bend used solid service to sweep Ilwaco 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-23) in a Pacific 2B League match at Ilwaco on Thursday.

The Tribe was led by Jessica Sanchez and Karley Reidinger. Sanchez finished the night with eight kills, three blocks and 10 digs, while Reidinger added seven kills, four blocks and seven digs.

“We did a really good job serving the ball and we served 93 percent at a team,” South Bend coach Jackie Sanchez said. “We got caught in a couple of rotations, but we were really resilient and forged ahead and got the win.”

Jackie Sanchez cited Hannah Byington for her work setting the ball.

South Bend also won the JV match, 25-10, 25-14, and the C-squad match, 25-9, 25-22.

South Bend (1-0, 3-4) hosts Northwest Christian on Tuesday.

Bulldogs sweep Beavers

TENINO — Montesano wasn’t shaken up by the road trip, hitting its stride early en route to a 25-8, 25-5, 25-12 sweep of host Tenino in Evergreen 1A League play on Thursday.

Shayla Floch led the Bulldogs (2-0, 8-0) with 19 kills and four solo blocks and Jordan Spradlin added 10 kills and three solo blocks. Hannah Hatcher dished out 29 assists and had eight digs, with Josie Toyra adding eight digs and 10 straight serves in the opening game.

“We came out with more energy tonight than in our previous showing,” Montesano head coach Debbie Gibson said. “We definitely played our game on our side of the net. I used three different lineups and I was happy with how they adjusted and played as a team.”

Janessa Otterstetter and Hannah Manley each finished with 100 percent serving, with Manley adding four aces. Josie Talley also have eight digs.

Montesano swept the junior varsity and C Squad matches.

On Tuesday, Montesano hosts Tenino.

Hoquiam tops Forks in four

Hoquiam rebounded from a slow start to defeat Forks 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20) in an Evergreen 1A League match at Hoquiam Square Garden on Thursday.

The Grizzlies were led offensively by 18 kills from Kamimi Papp and 14 kills from Karlie Krohn, while Angelica Wells added 18 assists and Paige Folkers chipped in with 10 assists.

“We just started really slow,” Hoquiam coach Heather Bozich said. “We have a new rotation that we just started with and the girls had some trouble getting used to it, but we worked the kinks out and as their communication got better, we got better. I’m just really proud of how our defense played tonight.”

Hoquiam (1-0, 3-5) travels to Montesano on Tuesday.

Bearcats beat Bobcats in four sets

After Aberdeen took the first set, Chehalis rallied to top the Bobcats 3-1 (13-25, 25-8, 25-13, 25-17) in an Evergreen 2A League match at Sam Benn Gym on Thursday.

The Bobcats (0-2, 0-6) put together a strong first set and looked to be rolling, but Aberdeen struggled to keep momentum.

“We came out strong and were passing and hitting the ball well,” Aberdeen coach Doug Basler said. “Everything came together in the first game, but there was a let down in the second game and that set the tone for the rest of the match.”

Adrianna Roberts finished the night with 12 assists and was 16-for-16 serving with three aces for the Bobcats. Basler also cited Malynda Winston and Tamara Corona for their play.

Aberdeen travels to Tumwater on Tuesday.

Elks sweep Acorns

AMANDA PARK — Finding a groove early, Lake Quinault got better as this Coastal 1B League match went along for a 25-16, 25-14, 25-11 win over Oakville on Thursday night.

Alex Blackburn had five kills for the Elks, who got solid serving from Espy Silva and Liz Guadarrama.

“Everyone contributed and played well rounded tonight,” Quinault head coach Sue Kalama said.

On Tuesday, Lake Quinault hosts Taholah.
