Comet Invitational
NASELLE — Raymond’s boys ran away with team honors in Naselle’s Comet Invitational on Thursday.
The Gulls amassed 142 points. South Bend finished second with 94 1/2 points. Life Christian won the girls title with 98 points, 19 more than runner-up Naselle.
Jimmy Thepsoumphou was a double winner for Raymond’s boys. He cleared 6 feet to win the high jump and finished in a rare dead heat with teammate J.J. Meade in the 100 meters.
Karlee Freeman was a triple winner in the throws for Raymond’s girls. Her discus throw of 160-08 was just short of her season best.
“It was a good meet for our kids to head into spring break,” Raymond coach Mike Tully said.
Preston Lawhead was a double winner in the 200 and 400 meters for South Bend’s boys. Hannah Byington took the 200 meters and long jump for the Tribe girls, while her brother Ben avenged a narrow loss to Raymond’s McCartney Maden from last week’s Pacific County Tri-District meet in the 300 hurdles.
North River runners swept the 1,600 meters, with Forrest Carbaugh winning the boys race and Ruby Gumaelius taking the girls event. Ocosta freshman Natalie Cain, second to Gumaelius in the 1,600, won the 3,200.

“It was a dominating effort and hopefully this strong week has been a sign of things to come in the second half of our season,” Bobcat coach Larry Fleming said.
Mariano Soto scored twice and Tony Hernandez, Trevor Mullins, Jesus Ayala, Carlos Campos and Lizzandro Coria one goal apiece in a 7-0 Aberdeen JV win.

Spartans 3, Bulldogs 1
FORKS — Unable to make an early goal stand up, Montesano fell to Forks in an Evergreen 1A League contest Thursday at Forks.
The Bulldogs (0-3, 0-8-2) scored in the opening minute, when Luis Muro converted a through pass from Robert Thomas.
Forks, however, tied it during stoppage time at the end of the first half. The Spartans then converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute after the Bulldogs were called for a handball in the box and added an insurance goal off of a free kick about 15 minutes later.
The Bulldogs were shorthanded, with midfielder Jordan King nursing an injury.
“We started getting tired a little bit in the second half,” Montesano coach Rick Denholm said. “We were right there in the first half. In the second half, we lost it a little.”
He credite goalkeeper Waymn Thoemmes and midfielders Thomas and Ben Royer for fine performances.
The Bulldogs will be idle until April 24, when they visit Elma.
