John Thomas Hannick, 94, passed away peacefully at the Circle of Life Family Care Facility in Long Beach, Wash. on March 28, 2018. John was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Joseph and Adeline Hannick. He was the youngest of eight siblings. He graduated from Wishkah High School in 1943 and soon thereafter married Mary Catherine Randich who survives him in Hoquiam, Wash.

John was a skilled carpenter. As a foreman for Fogde & Jensen, he played a major role constructing and supervising many notable homes and buildings throughout Grays Harbor. In 1978 he took a job with the Everett School District, heading up their Building and Maintenance Department until he retired in 1988.

John loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed many trips with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, especially a trip to Ireland where he was able to meet his father’s family.

In addition to gardening, one of his favorite hobbies was going to garage sales with his wife and finding the very best bargain. John also was a true lifelong learner, always seeking new information which he loved passing on to his children and grandchildren. We learned a lot from Dad.

John was a devoted Catholic and his faith was important to him throughout his life.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by his children, Joe Hannick of Bothell, Wash., Kathy Hannick Long of Ocean Park, Wash. and Sheri Hannick Stutesman of Port Angeles, Wash.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, John Hannick, as well as by five brothers and two sisters.

At his request there will be no formal services. Memorials can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Grays Harbor Habitat for Humanity.
