LONG BEACH — Wishkah Valley scored eight runs in the fifth inning to erase what was once a 7-1 deficit en route to a 16-12 victory over Naselle on Tuesday, earning the 1B Coastal League title in the process.
The Loggers benefited from five walks in the inning to go along with Abi Van Blaricom’s two-run triple.
Wishkah Valley outscored the Comets 14-5 over the final two-and-a-half innings.
The Loggers found themselves in a six-run hole after the fourth inning when Naselle scored two in the third and put up a four-spot in the fourth inning.
But after a brief rain-delay, Wishkah Valley’s fortunes turned around.
“After the rain delay, we came back and got our bats moving,” Loggers head coach Tove Reibel said.
Wishkah added a run in the bottom of the fourth then blew the game open with an eight-run fifth inning followed by six runs in the sixth.
Erica Bomhoff earned the win for Wishkah Valley, allowing five earned runs on five hits with eight walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings.
Naselle’s Holly Disch took the loss, surrendering 11 walks while striking out 12 for the Comets.

Monte advances to district title game
HOQUIAM — The Montesano Bulldogs rallied from three runs down to defeat La Center 9-5 in Tuesday’s 2A District playoff game at Olympic Stadium.
The victory punches Monte’s ticket to the district championship game, where they’ll face King’s Way Christian, which defeated White Salmon 13-0 on Tuesday, at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Castle Rock High School.
La Center (12-7 overall) took a 3-0 lead in the third inning before Montesano (19-1) and its run-producing offense awoke. The Bulldogs plated six runs in the fourth inning on just two hits, capitalizing on two Wildcats errors and a shaky inning from La Center starter Irving Alvarez, who hit a batter and walked three in the inning.
Monte would tack on insurance runs in each of the following three innings to go up 9-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
La Center tried to mount a comeback when Hayden Williamson belted a two-run double to make it a 9-5 game, but Monte reliever Payson Parker got Beau Castleberry to ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play with the tying run in the on-deck circle, securing the win and sending the Bulldogs to the district title game.
Evan Bates earned the win for Montesano, allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three free passes.
Nate Kloempken and Parker combined to throw the final three innings of relief, allowing just the two runs off Castleberry’s double.
Teagan Zillyett provided much of the offense for Monte, going 3-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI.
“It’s been a great ride so far,” Monte head coach Mike Osgood said of the playoff run. “(This win) was really a great team effort all around and I couldn’t be happier for the kids.”
While Osgood is hopeful his team will bring home a section title on Saturday, he is also focussed on the larger prize of a state title.
“Winning districts would be nice,” he said. “But the ultimate goal is to take it past that.”

HOQUIAM — Hoquiam eliminated Elma from the 1A District Tournament with an offensive onslaught that had the Grizzlies scoring early and often.
Hoquiam put up six runs in the first inning and got timely hitting from Andrew Anderson who went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Jackson Folkers was a part of two of Hoquiam’s rallies and went 2-for-3 with two runs. Walker Dunn also contributed, scoring two runs and going 3-for-3.
“I thought we were very disciplined laying off the curveball and we hit the fastball really well,” Grizzlies head coach Steve Jump said. “It was nice to see a lot of guys step up and hit the ball hard tonight.”
Elma coach Jim Hill said his team showed a lot of heart and is looking forward to having his young players back for another season.

Ocosta hopes dashed by Adna
MOSSYROCK — The Ocosta baseball team’s quest for a 2B district title ended on Tuesday after suffering a 7-3 semifinal loss to Adna at Mossyrock High School.
Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Adna scored four runs on two walks, an error followed by back-to-back triples.
“We had an inning kind of slip away from us,” Ocosta head coach Mike Allton said of the sixth inning.
Ocosta’s Jayden Matthews was 2-for-3 with two RBI and freshman catcher Isaac O’Hagan had a double and, according to Allton, played great defense against Adna, and throughout the season.
“He did a great job behind the plate and he wasn’t supposed to be our everyday catcher,” Allton said. “But we threw him in there. It was a tall order but he’s done the job. He had a great game.”

Aberdeen upends Washougal
ABERDEEN — Aberdeen soccer pulled off the comeback to defeat Washougal 4-2 on Tuesday and advance in the consolation bracket of the 2A district playoffs.
The Bobcats (12-5) went into the second half down 1-0 after surrendering a goal on a corner kick after goalkeeper Luis Soto made a save on a penalty kick.
Aberdeen tied the game up with a penalty kick off the foot of Trevor Dawkins in the 50th minute and pulled ahead with a goal from Luis Martinez in the 55th minute.
The Bobcats then padded the lead with another goal from Dawkins in the 65th minute.
With eight minutes remaining, Brendan Ford one-touched the ball past the keeper off an assist from Hulizes Chavez.
Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming was not pleased with the effort in the first 40 minutes but was encouraged by what he saw in the second half.
“Except for some problems with ball control and winning the ball in the air in the first half, we played a strong game and showed a lot of toughness by coming back and taking control of the match in the second half,” he said.
The Bobcats will face Black Hills on the road at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The winner will qualify for the district’s third-place match.
