Cougar sighted just north of Aberdeen High School Friday

Follows similar sighting on 9th Street Thursday

A cougar was spotted in the area of Terrace Avenue in Aberdeen Friday, just up the hill from the Aberdeen High School, according to Aberdeen Police Lt. Kevin Darst.

A woman reported seeing the cougar, which she described as the size of a medium to large sized dog.

This follows a report of a cougar sighting around 6 a.m. in the 300 block of 9th Street Thursday, just north of Friday’s sighting. Officers searched both areas Thursday and Friday and didn’t locate the cougar.

Darst said nearby schools were alerted, and he’s asking that anyone in the area report future sightings to the police.

There was a report of an adult cougar with two cubs spotted in the field behind Robert Gray Elementary School in the same area last year, so speculation is that this latest sighting could involve one of the cubs. Darst said there’s no way to be sure but it’s possible both recent sightings involve the same cat.
