Dolores Ileata (Belmont) Carl passed away June 24, 2018. She was 84.
Dolores, or Punkie as she was affectionately known to family and close friends, was born Nov. 1, 1933, to Frank and Ileata (Pittman) Belmont in Lebam, Wash. Punkie was raised in Willapa and proudly graduated as a Willapa Valley Viking in 1951. Following graduation, she attended Centralia Junior College and studied business.
On April 25, 1953, she married Dan “Junior” Carl in Raymond, Wash. Punkie and Junior made their home in South Bend, Washington, where their children, Mike and Kathy were born.
While Punkie spent the early years at home with her children, she worked briefly at Oscar Holm Insurance and Carl and Carl Construction before beginning a long career as a receptionist at the Department of Social and Health Services office in South Bend. Her friendly smile and penguin collection made her unforgettable for any patrons who walked through the doors.
Following her retirement in 1995, she stayed active teaching Sunday School and checking in on her friends and family. Punkie loved people and remembered their special events with greeting cards. She welcomed everyone she knew with a hug. She loved serving others.
Punkie was a natural hostess. She was proud of her Italian heritage, which she credited for her love of family. Her smiles were the biggest when the entire family was assembled for a holiday meal.
In 2012, Punkie and Junior moved to Channel Pointe where they lived until Junior’s death. Punkie then relocated near family in Montesano, and she volunteered at her church and the Lord’s Pantry until she was no longer able to serve. Her kind and compassionate heart and warm smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Punkie is survived by her children Mike (Leanne) Carl of Taylor, Neb. and Kathy (Norris) Sexton of Montesano, Wash.; four grandchildren Kasey (Jeremy) Grove of Hoquiam, Wash., Gary (Melissa) Sexton of Grays Harbor, Wash.; Rachel Carl of Omaha, Neb.; and Brendan (Jennie) Carl of Lincoln, Neb.; one great-grandson Reid; and two sisters-in-law Joyce (Jack) Metcalf of Seattle, Wash. and Twyla Belmont of Raymond, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother Gary, and her husband Dan.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, Jun 28, 2018, at the Crossroads Assembly of God Church, 707 Commercial Street, Raymond, Wash. Interment will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo.
