Two local softball players that made an appearance on the 1A Evergreen All-League team received an even higher honor this week.
Hoquiam catcher Maddie German and and Montesano outfielder Abbi Parkin earned 1A Evergreen First Team All-State honors as voted on by the state coaches.
German, a sophomore backstop, played well in her second year on varsity and was also named the league’s Offensive MVP earlier this month.
Parkin’s presence in the batting order was key at the top of the lineup as the sophomore hit .463 and stole 12 bases this season.
Montesano pitcher Samantha Stanfield and Elma outfielder Molly Johnston also earned all-state honors, being named Second Team All-State.
Stanfield was one of the most dominant pitchers in the section, posting a 1.68 ERA with a 13-3 record. She also struck out 192 batters in 121 innings of work.
Johnston, a junior, hit a pair of homers against La Center in the opening round of the district tournament.
Elma’s Kassedy Olson and Montesano’s Katie Granstrom were both named All-State Honorable Mention for their efforts this season.
The Eagles finished second in the state while the Bulldogs placed third.
