Glenn Newbury, son of Miles and Ruth (Arnold) Newbury, went Home on June 22, 2018, in Grapeview, Wash. He was 76. He was a proud Peninsula High graduate, class of 1960. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. He later retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Shop 72-Rigger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother William Levi (age four months); sister Mary Alice Tucker; and cousin (and best friend) Gene Newbury on Christmas Eve. He is survived by his children Jason (Kara) and Peggie (Todd); three grandchildren: Taylor, Maggie, and Keenan; six step-children; several step-grandchildren, including Meg Bartosovsky; and cousin Ruby Mae.
He loved fishing, NASCAR (Richard Petty was his favorite driver and a definite look-alike), crossword puzzles, the Seahawks, writing notes, dancing, rock-and-roll (Elvis Presley of-course), cooking, and his dog Elvira. Though he only saw his grandchildren three times over 15 years, he got a chance to get to know them in the past 15 months. It was a true blessing, and one that the family is genuinely thankful for. He watched soccer and basketball games, children’s plays, and laughed a lot. It was a joy for him to help Taylor and Meg in their young adulthood, and to sit with Maggie talking. The last thing he did with Keenan was eat ice cream, with a big smile on his face.
A casual, but honoring, memorial for dad will be held at Belfair Community Church in Belfair on July 21, at 11 a.m., followed by a potluck BBQ at Peggie’s home in Grapeview.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.
