Lindsey Baum memorial service set for Saturday, open to the public

A memorial service for Lindsey Baum, who went missing from McCleary in 2009 and whose remains were found in a remote area of Kittitas County in Eastern Washington in fall 2017, will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, in Olympia.

Lindsey’s mother, Melissa, will attend.

The public is invited to share stories and memories of Lindsey, who was 10 years old when she disappeared on a short walk from a friend’s home to her own.

The service will take place at the Evergreen Christian Community Church at 1000 Black Lake Blvd. SW in Olympia.

Lindsey’s remains were found about 20 miles west of Ellensburg. Investigators said because the remains were not directly linked to a crime, they were not examined by the FBI for months. Once they were identified, Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott was notified and an announcement was made May 10 in McCleary.

Melissa Baum, who left McCleary after the abduction, spoke at a June 14 press conference in McCleary, asking for tips to help bring her daughter’s killer or killers to justice.

“Monsters do exist,” she said during the press conference. “If you tell your kids they don’t, you’re lying to them.”

Since the remains were identified, Scott, the FBI, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies have been working steadily to identify potential suspects that might have ties to both Grays Harbor and Kittitas counties and who could have been in McCleary at the time of the abduction.

The investigation is ongoing. Tips can be made at 360-964-1799 or baumtips@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.
