A blowout in Elma and a barn-burner in Raymond highlight our Week 3 prep football roundup.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 28, Raymond 24

A goal line stand late in the game persevered a 28-24 win for the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Titans on Friday at Raymond High School.

PWV (2-1, 1-0 Pacific 2B) scored on a 42-yard pass from quarterback Logan Walker to running back Peter Hamilton to give the Titans a 6-0 lead at the 3:07 mark of the first quarter.

Raymond running back McCartney Maden scored on a 59-yard run to give the Seagulls (0-3, 0-1 Pacific 2B) a 7-6 lead with 6:23 in the second.

After Walker hit Max Smith on a 14-yard TD pass to give the lead back to PWV with a minute to go until halftime, Maden struck again, scoring on a 53-yard run on the last play of the first half to give Raymond a 14-12 lead at the break.

Raymond took a 17-12 lead when kicker Jose Delgado hit a 37-yard field goal with 3:37 to go in the third.

But Smith scored his second touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run less than two minutes later to give the Titans a 20-14 lead.

Raymond’s Joseph Villalpondo took the lead back when he scored on a 10-yard TD run at 8:32 in the fourth quarter, but Hamilton’s 35-yard TD run three-and-a-half minutes later gave the Titans the narrow 28-24 margin.

With time winding down, Raymond drove inside the Titans red zone and had a first-and-goal situation at the 5-yard line.

The PWV defense stepped up when it counted most, recording tackles for losses on first and second downs followed by a stuff at the line of scrimmage on third down, setting up fourth-and-goal situation with the game on the line and time for one final play.

Raymond quarterback Jack Jordan’s pass attempt in the end zone was intercepted by PWV’s Sam Western as the buzzer sounded, ending a hair-raising contest.

“Just an excellent, back-and-forth football game all around,” PWV head coach Josh Fluke said. “Props to my boys because they never got down, even when Raymond went up. They kept fighting and our defense made one hell of a stand.”

Walker went 5-for-13 for 142 yards and two TDs to lead the Titans.

Despite the fact that they were without standout running back Patrick Edwards, who sat out the game with a wrist injury, and dropped their third hard-fought game in a row to start the season, Raymond head coach Luke Abbott remains positive.

“I’m very confident that we will do well the rest of the season,” he said.

Maden finished with a team-high 159 yards on 14 carries and two TDs. Villalpondo added 97 yards on 21 carries and a TD for Raymond.

Elma 42, Aberdeen 0

In an exquisite example of ‘quality over quantity,’ Elma quarterback Cody Vollan only completed five passes against Aberdeen on Friday night, but he sure made them count.

Vollan went 5-for-9 for 209 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles blasted the Bobcats, 42-0, at Elma High School.

Of Vollan’s four scoring tosses, three were 46-yards or longer. The junior co-captain hit Taitum Brumfield on a 66-yard strike to open the scoring at 7-0 with 7:09 to go in the first quarter, and the floodgates opened from there.

After a Brumfield TD run of five yards made it 14-0 after one quarter, Vollan struck again, this time to Carter Jacobson for 46 yards to make it 21-0 early in the second frame.

A Brady Shriver scoring run of 17 yards gave Elma a 28-0 lead at the half.

Vollan then hit Brumfield for a 67-yard touchdown completion to go up 35-0 at the 1:13 mark of the third quarter. He rounded out his incredibly efficient night with a 13-yard TD pass to Tysen Richardson with 8:30 to go in the fourth quarter.

Brumfield was Vollan’s main target on the night, as the senior running back caught three passes for 150 yards and two TDs. He also ran for a team-high 91 yards on 17 carries with a TD.

The Eagles (3-0 overall) outgained Aberdeen (0-3), 424-117.

Aberdeen quarterback Ben Dublanko was 7-for-19 for 82 yards and two interceptions.

Aidan Neeley led the Bobcats with 54 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Elma’s Isaiah O’Farrill led the Eagles’ defense with 10 tackles (nine solo).

Ocosta 41, South Bend 14

After falling behind 8-0 early, the Ocosta Wildcats scored 35-straight points en route to a 41-14 win over the South Bend Indians on Friday in Westport.

Wildcats running back Kobe Beck had 233 total yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns to lead the Ocosta offense.

Quarterback Cole Hatton went 9-for-15 for 173 yards and two TDs for an Ocosta team that outgained South Bend, 355-203.

The Wildcats also scored points on defense when Harley Figueroa scored on a 21-yard interception return that gave Ocosta a 13-8 lead in the second quarter.

South Bend’s Hunter Clements scored on an 8-yard pass from quarterback Drew Rose and Chase Flynn scored on a 37-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to break Ocosta’s point streak.

“Our O-line came out slow but quickly made adjustments,” Ocosta head coach Chris Raffelson said. “They opened holes for Kobe (Beck).”

Ocosta moves to 3-0 overall on the season, 1-0 in the 2B Pacific League.

South Bend is now 1-2, 0-1 in league play.

Hoquiam 40, La Center 14

Grizzlies quarterback Payton Quintanilla accounted for 224 yards of offense as Hoquiam blasted La Center, 40-14, on Friday at Olympic Stadium.

Quintanilla was 12-for-21 for 169 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air and rushed for 55 yards on 14 carries for two scores as Hoquiam dominated from start to finish.

Hoquiam junior running back Ben Estes rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and Grizzlies receiver Dane McMillan caught five passes for a touchdown and team-high 75 yards.

Hoquiam (3-0) led 20-6 at halftime and finished the game with 214 rushing yards and 383 total yards as a team.

Mossyrock defeated North Beach, 28-0, in Friday’s non-league matchup at North Beach High School.

Big plays helped Mossyrock secure the victory as the Vikings scored on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and a 40-yard scoring passing play.

North Beach will look to pick up its first win of the season when they host Ocosta at 7 p.m. on Friday.
