COLLEGE SOCCER
Tacoma 2, Grays Harbor 0
Though they have yet to get a win this season, the coaching staff of the Grays Harbor Chokers was pleased with the growth the team showed in a 2-0 loss to Tacoma on Wednesday at Stewart Field.
“The players did well playing through injury and it was a really gritty, determined performance,” Chokers head coach Dave Brown said. “We have to keep working hard and get a little better every time. I’m seeing a lot of positive things.”
Prior to the loss to Tacoma the Chokers had given up three goals or more in every match this season.
Tacoma capitalized on an early defensive lapse when Hailey Sargent to score in the 12th minute.
The Choker’s defense combined with some timely saves from goalkeeper Annalise Huntamer to keep the score 1-0 heading into halftime.
Grays Harbor looked to get more aggressive but couldn’t generate a counter attack, only putting one shot on the goal in the match.
Tacoma’s Jossie Lauderback scored on a far post shot in the 63rd minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Brown was pleased with the defensive effort of his midfielders and backs but is still hoping for more offense late in the season.
“We just need to get a little more composure in the attacking third and then we’ll be able to get some balls in the net,” he said.
