On Nov. 7, para-professional Ethan Gusdal saved a student’s life at Raymond Junior High School by employing the Heimlich maneuver.

Dave Vetter, the grateful school principal, sent the following letter of commendation to Gusdal:

“Changing children’s lives is something we do every day. On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, you changed a life by saving a life.

“Your training and quick action in performing the Heimlich maneuver on a Raymond Jr. High School student saved a young man’s life. In watching the video of the incident, Dr. Holland and I were extremely impressed with the calmness and quickness you exhibited in instantly recognizing the problem and handling it.

“Noticeable, was the lack of commotion or panic. Most of the staff and students in the room had no idea you were saving a life and went about their business. You told me you knew there was a problem from the look in that student’s eyes. From this day forth, you will be able to look in that student’s eyes and know he is safe here today because of you.

“Again, I want to commend you and congratulate you on your quick action that day.”
