Bulldogs 56, Beavers 14

TENINO — A muddy field did little to slow down Montesano on Friday. The Bulldogs racked up 371 rushing yards as they defeated Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League contest.

The win enabled the Bulldogs to clinch no worse than a share of the league title and the top-seeded crossover district berth.

The Bulldogs (3-0, 8-0) jumped out to an early lead with Carson Klinger rushing for touchdowns of 5 and 15 yards in the first six minutes and never looked back. Klinger finished with four total touchdowns, including a 60-yard fumble return. and 172 yards rushing.

“We jumped out on them pretty quick,” Montesano coach Terry Jensen said. “We came out and executed really well. We were able to move the ball right away and we scored on defense and special teams. We came out and took care of business in really sloppy field conditions.”

After the two scores by Klinger, Nathan Olson tacked on a 14-yard touchdown to make the score 21-0 after one quarter.

Montesano’s Dakoyta Reninger broke a 25-yard run just one minute into the second quarter, but it was the Bulldog defense that added the next touchdown. With 6:25 to go in the first half, Hayden Klinger was able to block a Tenino punt and Dakoyta Reninger came down with the ball and scampered 14 yards for the score.

Tenino’s Spencer Brewer followed his blockers on a screen pass for a 30-yard touchdown with just two seconds left in the half.

Montesano’s Nathan Olson broke a 40-yard run and Carson Klinger broke a 55-yard run to each score in the third quarter before Klinger’s fumble return capped the Bulldog scoring in the fourth quarter.

Brewer caught a 17-yard pass to add Tenino’s other score.

Olson rushed for 121 yards, while Reninger finished with 77 yards on the ground.

Jensen cited Taylor Rupe, who finished with 12 tackles, Carson Klinger, Hayden Klinger and Tyler Reninger for their defensive performances.

Montesano hosts rival Elma next Friday.

Bobcats 20, Warriors 0

ROCHESTER — On a night when the Aberdeen offense had trouble getting traction, literally, the defense made up for any shortcomings. The Bobcats limited Rochester to net of just three yards rushing and 101 yards of offense as Aberdeen defeated the Warriors in an Evergreen 2A Conference game on Friday.

Aberdeen’s Kylan Touch accounted for two rushing touchdowns and threw for another to help lift the Bobcats to victory.

“Our defense played really huge,” Aberdeen coach Kevin Ridout said. “The defense really stood up and kept us in the game. The field conditions were horrible, but both teams had to play on it. I think that limited our offense getting traction. It is a good feeling to get the win and the shutout is an awesome feeling in itself, limiting a team on the scoreboard. Overall, a great night for us.”

Aberdeen scored the eventual game-winning touchdown on its second drive of the game when Touch hit Braden Castleberry-Taylor with a 45-yard pass. David Housden added the point after.

The Bobcats went into the locker room at halftime with a 7-0 lead. Two plays into the second half, it was Touch who broke loose a 60-yard run to put Aberdeen up 13-0.

Touch toted the ball in from 20 yards out to end his night at 106 total rushing yards and cap the scoring in the fourth.

Elias Jimienz finished with 42 yards rushing and Castleberry-Taylor added 62 yards receiving.

Aberdeen (1-3, 3-5) hosts Centralia on Friday.

Gulls 19, Indians 6

RAYMOND — Jace Duckworth sloshed for 197 yards and two touchdowns on a sloppy field as Raymond beat rival South Bend in a Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division game Friday night at Raymond.

The Gulls (3-1, 5-3) kept alive their hopes of earning at least a share of the division title. They’ll visit league-leading Pe Ell-Willapa Valley next Friday at Pe Ell, with the winner earning the division’s top-seeded berth in the crossover playoffs.

Despite Duckworth’s output, on 24 carries, and South Bend’s A.J. Sanchez’s 143 yards on 16 carries, field conditions neutralized the ground game of both teams.

“We had two or three swamps out there,” Raymond coach Luke Abbott noted. “Because of field conditions, we were not able to do the types of things we wanted to do. We had to play a hard-nosed ground game and slip and slide back and forth.”

The Gulls, however, made some defensive adjustments to help slow down Sanchez while sustaining some drives in the second half.

Up 7-6 at the half, Raymond blocked a punt to set up Kason Koski’s 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Duckworth closed out the scoring with a 13-yard scoring burst early in the final period.

Duckworth also scored on the game’s opening series, on a 2-yard run. Koski’s PAT kick made it 7-0.

Sanchez broke a 30-yard TD run late in the first quarter, but the Indians (0-4, 2-6) missed the conversion.

“I thought we played really well, especially in the first half,” South Bend coach Tom Sanchez said. “Duckworth was a factor, he ran well.”

Abbott cited the defensive play of middle linebacker Luke Hamilton and defensive ends Koski and Brandt Rockwell. He also praised the South Bend coaching staff for its defensive game plan.

South Bend’s Jordan Dockter ran for 70 yards on 18 carries. The Tribe’s Josiah Markwell had a hand in 18 tackles, while Ben Byington made nine stops.

The Indians close out their season Friday at home against Ocosta.

Fishermen 55, Wildcats 6

ILWACO — Ilwaco downed Ocosta in a Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division game Friday night.

The Wildcats (0-4, 2-5) travel to South Bend on Friday.

Dist. IV 2A Meet

LONGVIEW —Aberdeen’s singles and doubles teams had a rough day, leaving just one survivor after the opening rounds of the District IV 2A meet at Mint Valley Country Club on Friday.

Luis Garcia is the lone Bobcat to make it into today’s final matches. Garcia lost to R.A. Long’s Erik Brines, 6-0, 6-0, then defeated teammate Ryan Solan in a 2 1/2-hour marathon, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-5 to stay alive.

Solan lost his opener to Columbia River’s Nick Neathamer, 6-0, 6-0.

The lone AHS doubles team of Cody Sayres-Josh Germeaux was eliminated in two matches — a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Mark Morris’ Gabe Slind-George Johnson and a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Washougal’s Scott Anderson-Jalen Watts.

“The long van ride (to Longview) hurt us; we came out slow and it showed,” AHS head coach Andy Duffy said. “They were playing the top seeds, which is tough. It has been a good season. We were league champs and we’re still alive on the second day at districts.”

Wildcats win in three

PUYALLUP — Erika Snider delivered 17 kills as Ocosta swept Chief Leschi, 25-8, 25-15, 25-8, in a Pacific League match Friday at Puyallup.

Snider added to her school single-season ace record by serving seven aces in this one. Layne Martin served 15 points and added 11 kills for the Wildcats (4-2, 9-3).

Emily Snider served 14 points, Alivia Marsh had six kills and Emily Arndt had a 100 percent serving night for Ocosta. Kiana Morrow came off the bench to provide four kills and four stuff blocks.

“The girls did a great job,” Ocosta coach Barbara Rasmus said. “We hit well and we passed very well.”

The Wildcats travel to Raymond on Monday.

Red Devils sweep away Chokers

At Sam Benn Gym, Grays Harbor College started slow and couldn’t found a way to shake it off in a 25-11, 25-20, 25-23 loss to division-leading Lower Columbia College in NWAC Western Division play on Friday night.

Further details were not available.

On Wednesday, the Chokers (5-3, 17-17) will hit the road to take on Tacoma in a key division matchup.
