Aberdeen Police Deputy Chief Dave Timmons will officially retire March 15, the day that marks the 45th anniversary of him joining the force.
Timmons began his career in 1974 as a patrol officer and was promoted to sergeant, then captain and in 1996 deputy chief. He stepped up to serve as interim chief for a year as well.
Timmons was one of only a few officers to be chosen for the FBI Academy, which brought the FBI to Aberdeen to interview him for the position. He has successfully written many grants over the years to assist in growing the department and expanding community programs, including $800,000 he received for the jail. He was recognized as the1990 Daily World Police Officer of the Year and was the first local police motorcyclist in the 1970s. He was in the first group of officers to start the SWAT team in Aberdeen. He also served as a range master at the shooting range for years.
Timmons plans to officially sign off and walk out of the Aberdeen Police Department at the time he entered to start his career, noon. He will remain as a Grays Harbor PUD Commissioner where he is serving his second term.
