WF West 2, Aberdeen 0
Timely hits evaded Aberdeen on Tuesday as the Bobcats lost a low-scoring 2-0 duel to WF West at the Bishop Sports Complex in Aberdeen.
The Bobcats (5-6, 4-4 Evergreen 2A) had runners on second and third in the second and sixth innings but failed to bring them home in both instances.
WF West pitcher Kamy Dacus was dominant in the circle for the Bearcats (11-1, 6-1) and struck out 12 batters in a shutout performance.
Dacus came up with two clutch strikeouts to put an end to Aberdeen’s rally attempts and struck out Maddy Baudais in the second frame before fanning Jalyn McDaniel in the sixth frame to end those threats.
McDaniel made her impact felt with her pitching and worked her way out of trouble despite allowing 10 baserunners.
Aberdeen head coach Scott Wilson said he was disappointed his team was unable to score on a day when the pitching and defense shined.
“Jalyn (McDaniel) threw her heart out and she left everything out on the field,” he said. “We played great defensively, but we didn’t get the key hits. We had runners on second and third a couple of times and we just couldn’t get anything going.”

WF West picked up its runs in the fourth and sixth innings, with Ellie Bunker driving in both runs with up-the-middle singles to provide the difference in the ball game.
Wilson didn’t have too much of an issue with his player’s hitting mechanics and said the Bobcats will need to change their mentality at the plate to get clutch hits next time out.
“We have to get mentally tough,” he said. “WF West got the hits when they needed because they are more mentally tough than we are. We can hit 500 balls off a tee, but they have to have that mental toughness at the plate.”
The Bobcats will try to hold on to its third-place spot in the standings when they take on Rochester on the road at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The loss doesn’t remove Aberdeen from the playoff picture, but the Bobcats will have some work to do to in order to avoid a one-game playoff at season’s end.
The top four teams from the league qualify for the postseason with the fourth-place team having to compete in a play-in game before the start of the district tournament.
Aberdeen won its play-in game to make it to districts last season, but with seven league games left on the schedule, Wilson wants to see his team turn up the intensity down the stretch to solidify its spot in the playoffs.
“It’s do or die right now. If we want to move on, these are the games that we have to win. We have to beat Rochester, we have to beat Black Hills and we have to beat Centralia again,” he said. “We have to win those games if we want to be in the driver’s seat instead of the backseat having to play a play-in game to try to get in.”

PREP BASEBALL
Hoquiam 4, Elma 2
Hoquiam scored early and relied on a strong outing from pitcher Kyle Larsen to pick up the 4-2 home win over Elma on Tuesday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.
The Grizzlies (9-5, 4-2 Evergreen 1A) got six innings from Larsen as the hurler scattered four hits without surrendering an earned run.
Payton Quintanilla provided a key run in third inning when he hit a line-drive home run over the center-field wall to give Hoquiam a 3-2 lead in the bottom of third.
Larsen helped out his own cause in the fifth inning with an RBI single up the middle that drove in Justin Folkers to provide an insurance run.
Elma (4-11, 1-6) got its runs with the help of Hoquiam errors in the first and third innings that allowed Brady Shriver and Tysen Richardson to put tallies on the board for the Eagles.
Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday. Elma will travel to Forks for a 4 p.m. game while Hoquiam will face Tenino on the road at 4:30 p.m.

Ocosta 13, South Bend 3
Ocosta opened up its Senior Night doubleheader in style by downing South Bend 13-3 in six innings on Tuesday in Westport.
Cesar Martinez and Jose Sevilla paced Ocosta’s offense. Martinez went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI while Sevilla went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and three runs driven in.
Ocosta (15-2, 13-1 Pacific 2B) trailed 3-1 after South Bend’s Drew Rose drove in a pair of runs with a single in the top of the third inning, but the Wildcats struck back with three in the bottom half of the inning and exploded for nine runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings to earn the victory.
Kobe Beck earned the victory for Ocosta, allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Cole Hatton relieved Beck, throwing 2 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball with six strikeouts in relief of Alek Samplawski.
Drew Rose took the loss, allowing the go-ahead run on one hit with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Ocosta’s offense stayed red-hot in the nightcap as the Wildcats smacked 11 hits and benefited from nine South Bend walks to earn a 14-2 victory.
Ocosta took a 5-0 lead in the first inning on Kjirsten Hopfer’s two-run single, which opened the floodgates for the Wildcats’ offense.
“She was instrumental for us,” Ocosta head coach Mike Allton said. “That kind of opened this up for us.”
The Wildcats added three more runs in the second, highlighted by Colby Scheuber’s run-scoring double.
Coming off his relief appearance in Game 1, Cole Hatton dazzled on the mound for Ocosta. The junior hurler held the Indians (6-6, 4-6) hitless through four innings of work while striking out 10.
Jayden Matthews led Ocosta’s hit parade, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Hopfer and Cesar Martinez each collected two hits in the game for the Wildcats.
Allton praised his seniors after the twin bill sweep.
“It was a great night for Beck and Matthews, our two seniors,” he said. “It was a good way to send off two guys that have done a lot for our program the last couple of years. I tip my cap to them.”
With the sweep, Ocosta is a game ahead of Raymond in the race for the 2B Pacific League’s top spot. The Wildcats take on the Seagulls in a crucial doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Raymond.
South Bend takes on PWV in a Friday doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. in South Bend.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s Luke Gerow had a monster game at the plate to lead the Titans to a 12-1 victory over North Beach in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Ocean Shores.
Gerow had three hits, including a bases-clearing double and an RBI triple, and drove in five runs to lead PWV’s offense.
The Titans (10-4, 10-2 Pacific 2B) took advantage of eight North Beach errors and five of PWV’s eight hits were for extra bases.
Frank Roonsburg also had a solid day at the plate for the Titans, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored.
Hunter Hoke earned the victory for PWV, allowing one earned run on one hit in four innings pitched.
Chance Beck took the loss for North Beach (2-9, 1-9), allowing nine runs (three earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts in four innings pitched.

PWV’s offense continued to pound the baseball in a 15-2 victory over North Beach in the nightcap.
Hunter Hoke went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead a PWV offense that recorded 10 hits and scored eight runs in the fourth inning to put the game well out of reach.
Gerow took the mound, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits in 2 1/3 innings pitched to pick up the victory.
With the doubleheader sweep, PWV sits a half-game behind Raymond for second place in the 2B Pacific standings.
Next up for the Titans is a doubleheader against South Bend on Friday in South Bend. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
North Beach hosts Chief Leschi for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Aberdeen played close with Black Hills in one of its singles matches, but was ultimately unable to avoid the sweep in a 6-0 loss to the Wolves on Tuesday in Tumwater.
Aberdeen (0-7, 0-3 Evergreen 2A) got its most promising effort from Alicia Raygoza, who played a close opening set with Ansley Dragon.
Raygoza lost the first set 6-4 and had trouble keeping the pressure on her opponent in the second set, falling 6-1.
Aberdeen will try to find the win column at Centralia at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

On a night where offense was at a premium, Aberdeen fell victim to a second-half penalty kick in a 1-0 loss to Tumwater on Tuesday.
Tumwater (10-3-1, 6-2 Evergreen 2A) converted on the penalty in the 65th minute to give the Thunderbirds the edge.
Aberdeen (8-3-1, 5-3) nearly tied the game up in the final minutes of the match as Miguel Martinez and Christian Sanchez both missed on scoring chances in front of Tumwater’s goal.
“We had gave it our best effort and were strong in almost every aspect of the game except putting one in the back of the net,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said.
Aberdeen remains in third place in the league with the loss and will look to climb up the standings when the Bobcats face Centralia at home on Friday on at 7 p.m.
Aberdeen junior varsity lost to Tumwater 4-0 earlier in the evening.

GIRLS PREP GOLF
Black Hills 85, Aberdeen 34
Aberdeen couldn’t keep up with a hot-shooting Black Hills team and lost 85-34 on Tuesday at Grays Harbor Country Club.
The Wolves (3-1 overall) were led by McKenna Canty, who shot a 28 (Stableford scoring system).
Ryder Heikkila led Aberdeen (0-5, 0-4 Evergreen 2A) with 15 points and was one of two Bobcats to reach double figures.
Aberdeen head coach Dan Sundstrom said the large margin by which his team lost is not an indication of its quality of play.
“We continue to work on putting good shots together,” he said. “Players are hitting nice shots on every hole, but we can’t seem to score more points yet.”
Aberdeen will be in pursuit of its first win of the season when it travels to Riverside Golf Course to face Centralia at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
