Tumwater takes both games from Aberdeen
Aberdeen’s defense provided Tumwater with plenty of opportunities to score as the Bobcats lost both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday in Aberdeen.
Tumwater 10, Aberdeen 3
In a continuation of a rain-shortened game that started on March 27 in Tumwater, the Thunderbirds (14-3 overall, 11-1 Evergreen 2A) pulled away late to come away with a 10-3 victory.
The game picked up in the second inning with the game tied at a run apiece and Tumwater added three runs in the top of third to jump out to a 4-1 lead.
Aberdeen (7-8, 6-6 Evergreen 2A) responded with a run in the bottom of third and fourth and cut into Tumwater’s lead to make the score 4-3.
Sierra Hammond scored on an error in the third and drove in a run with a double in the fourth inning, putting Aberdeen down just one run.
Tumwater (14-3, 11-1 Evergreen 2A) tacked on run each in the fifth and sixth innings and pulled away in the seventh with four more runs.
Tumwater’s four-run seventh inning rally started with a home run from Myrah Seaton and was followed by four consecutive hits.
Aberdeen head coach Scott Wilson said four errors made it difficult to keep one of the best teams in the league from scoring.
“Today just wasn’t our day defensively. I couldn’t tell you how many errors we had. In that first game, we lost 10-3 but (Jalyn McDaniel) only had five earned runs,” he said. “Tumwater is the number one team in the league for a reason. They put pressure on your defense and we weren’t up for the challenge.”

The Bobcats kept the first game of the doubleheader close but saw the nightcap get away from them early in a 15-4 loss.
Aberdeen and Tumwater were locked in a 1-1 tie, but the Thunderbirds took off with 10 runs in the second inning.
Kacie Powell got the start for Aberdeen in the circle and couldn’t get out of the second inning thanks to two costly errors and a series of two-out hits.
Five of the 10 runs Tumwater scored in its big inning came with two outs.
Tumwater’s Lydia Glasgo was a tough out in that inning as well, scoring twice with two hits in the frame.
Powell handed the ball over to McDaniel, who had pitched all seven innings in the previous game. McDaniel got out of the inning after giving up two more runs.
Wilson said he was hesitant to bring McDaniel back into the game so she could rest up for a pivotal matchup against Centralia.
“We were hoping we could save (McDaniel) for Friday to be be honest. It’s a big game on Friday, it’s a battle for third,” he said. “I told the kids to forget about today. That’s not normally my motto, but today it is because Friday is the big day.”
Hammond provided a spark in the losing effort with a three-run blast to left field. Hammond drove in four runs and came away with five combined hits against Tumwater.
Centralia defeated Rochester 2-1 on Wednesday, putting the Bobcats one game up on Centralia as Aberdeen looks to hold on to third place.
Aberdeen will be looking to avoid dropping into fourth place and the play-in game that it had to play in last year.
Wilson said he would like his players to put Wednesday’s games behind them but is hoping some of the hitting carries over to Friday’s game.
“Sierra was huge today for us today in both games. She kept hitting the ball well and she had the three-run homer late in the second game,” he said. “We weren’t horrible at the plate. There were a few balls that we hit well that were right at people.”
Aberdeen and Centralia will square off with third place on the line on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Centralia.

PREP BASEBALL
Montesano 7, Elma 3
Timely run-scoring hits from Cyrus Parsons and Aaron Plato in the sixth inning broke a tie ballgame and led Montesano to a 7-3 win over Elma on Wednesday at Vessey Field in Montesano.
With the game tied at 3-3 after Elma sophomore Noah Huttula walked to force in a run in the top half of the sixth, Monte responded.
Payson Parker led off Monte’s half of the sixth with a double to left field and came around to score on Parker’s line-drive single one out later as the Bulldogs regained the lead, 4-3.
Later in the inning, Lane singled with two out and two on, scoring Parsons and Cayleb Reninger to give Monte (17-2 overall, 11-0 Evergreen 1A) some insurance at 6-3.
After Parker Plato walked, Monte senior outfielder Teegan Zillyett singled to right. Lano came around to score on the play and extended Monte’s lead to 7-3.
Elma (4-14, 1-10) led 2-0 in the third on a Brady Shriver sacrifice fly followed by a Brody Rustemeyer double that scored Brady Johnston.
The Bulldogs scored their first run in the bottom of the third when Plato hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Braden Dohrmann to cut the Eagles’ lead in half.
Monte tied the game in the fifth, when Lano singled in Trace Ridgway to cap three straight singles for the Bulldogs to open the frame.
Jack Anderson picked up the victory, pitching an inning of relief for Ridgway, who allowed three runs on three hits in five innings pitched.
Cobey Moore took the loss for Elma, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in six innings pitched.
Monte closes out the regular season with a home game against Hoquiam at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Elma’s season concludes with a home game against Tenino. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
