Julanne V. Larsen passed away peacefully, at age 88, on Oct. 28, 2016.
Julie was born Sept. 22, 1928, to Harry J. and Rose Agnes Voigt, the youngest of three siblings including Evelyn and Harry Jr. (Jimmy). The family moved from Tacoma to Montesano, where Julie graduated high school and in 1949 married Leigh Larsen. After working at a local doctors’ office, Julie began a career with the Department of Labor and Industries, in Olympia, from which she retired as Senior Claims Adjudicator in 1989. Julie broke the glass ceiling at L&I and won high praise for her knowledge and common sense, while also being known as a fashion plate with a noted dry sense of humor. Julie was a longtime member at St. Michael’s Catholic parish and volunteered at St. Placid’s Priory and with hospice. Julie enjoyed many years of travel including trips to Europe, the Holy Land, Australia and Alaska, and always made new friends on her travels. Julie had a “green thumb” and her homes always had beautiful gardens; not to mention her feline “children” over the years including Chunks, Luther, Miss Kitty and Micah. Julie nurtured a close circle of friends, of whom Jan Van Fredenberg and Lou Miller have stayed a close part of her life to the very end.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the many people who assisted in recent years as Julie lived courageously with Parkinson’s, especially Lisa Braun and the caregivers at Marstrom Adult Family Home. Julie is survived by her sister Evelyn Partridge of Seattle; her nephews Craig Partridge (Lou Ann Dunlap) Olympia, and Brian Partridge (Cheryl) Vancouver; five grand-nieces and nephews, Clea, Jesse, Gayle, Alan, and Daniel; two great-grand-nieces Evi and Emily; her loyal cousin Sister Sharon McDonald of St. Placid’s Priory; and Juli Kelen of Olympia.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s downtown at noon on Monday, Nov. 7, with a rosary service at 11:15 a.m. Interment will be at Wynoochee Cemetery in Montesano at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
