Walsh pulls ever-so-slightly ahead of Purcell

Aberdeen Republican now 76 votes over Longview Democrat in razor-thin 19th District State House race

The race for the Position 1 seat in the 19th District for the Washington State House remains extremely tight. At this point, Republican Jim Walsh of Aberdeen has garnered only 76 votes more than Democrat Teresa Purcell of Longview, as of ballot totals reported by some counties within the legislative district on Monday.

Walsh had 25,462 votes (50.07 percent) and Purcell had 25,386 votes (49.93 percent) districtwide as a result of these latest updates.

In Grays Harbor, specifically, Walsh has 6,226 votes (50.82 percent) and Purcell 6,026 (49.18 percent).

On Thursday after last week’s updates were reported, Purcell was only 83 votes ahead of Walsh.

Walsh described the trend of the districtwide total moving slightly in his favor on Monday as “hopeful.”

Grays Harbor County went a day ahead of schedule by providing an update Monday and plans to complete another one Thursday afternoon. Lewis and Cowlitz counties updated Monday and will do so again today. Pacific County also plans to provide a ballot update today, according to posts on each of these county’s individual websites.

Pacific and Wahkiakum Counties are fully within the 19th State Legislative District, while portions of Grays Harbor, Lewis and Cowlitz are included.
