The Grays Harbor men’s basketball team celebrated its Thanksgiving holiday in style, taking two of three games played at the Skagit Valley College Turkey Tourney over the weekend.
Grays Harbor 78, Big Bend 55
Down five points at the half, Grays Harbor rallied to rout Big Bend over the final 20 minutes of the game en route to a 78-55 win in Friday’s tournament opener for the Chokers.
Michael Sampson led the way for Grays Harbor (5-3 overall), scoring 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Zyare Ruffin added 20 points for a Chokers team that shot 48.4% from the field (31-64) and outscored Big Bend 53-25 in the second half.

Grays Harbor 101, Northwest Indian 65
Five different Chokers players scored in double figures as Grays Harbor defeated Northwest Indian College for the second time this season 101-65 on Saturday.
Led by Malachi McLaurin and former Willapa Valley standout Matthew Pearson, both of whom scored 12 points in the first half, Grays Harbor jumped out to a 53-28 lead by halftime.
Pearson led all scorers with 18 points and nine rebounds followed by McLaurin (16 points), Daylon Ramsey (15 pts.), Zachary Marrotte (12 pts.), Ryan Pearson (12 pts.) and Tristan Schoepf (10 pts.) as the Chokers shot 66.2% for the game (45-68) and 57% from beyond the arc (8-14).

Skagit Valley 86, Grays Harbor 71
Grays Harbor fell behind by double digits at halftime and never recovered in an 86-71 loss to Skagit Valley on Sunday.
Skagit Valley, which led 49-37 at halftime, was led by Willie Thomas III and Marquan Williams, each of whom scored a game-high 24 points in the contest.
Grays Harbor was led by Zachary Marrotte, who scored 19 points on 6-of-15 shooting to go along with his seven rebounds.
Daylon Ramsey scored 12 points as the only other Chokers player to score in double digits as Grays Harbor was held to 42.4% shooting (25-59) and hit just 5-of-17 three-pointers (29.4%) in the loss.
Grays Harbor takes on Multnomah at 7 p.m. on Wednesday before hosting Edmonds at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
