The Twin Harbors beach near Westport will open for razor clam digs for the second weekend in a row starting at noon Saturday.
Last weekend’s dig was a good one. “Not only were most folks digging their limits but they were harvesting some good sized clams,” said Fish and Wildlife coastal shellfish manager Dan Ayres. Marine toxin tests came back clean, allowing for the three-day dig. There’s no digging before noon. Early evening will be the best time to hit the beach, with a 4:47 p.m. 0.5 foot tide Saturday, a 5:24 p.m. 0.2 foot Sunday and a minus 0.1 Monday at 5:59 p.m.
A quick refresher on the rules: Diggers can take 15 razor clams per day and are required to keep the first 15 they dig. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. All diggers age 15 or older must have an applicable 2016-17 fishing license to harvest razor clams on any beach. Licenses, ranging from a three-day razor clam license to an annual combination fishing license, are available on WDFW’s website at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov and from license vendors around the state.
Toxin levels are still too high at Long Beach, which remains closed for the harvest of razor clams, added Ayres.
