Holiday weekend bringing stormy weather

Mountain passes will see lots of snow

The National Weather Service says a series of storms will bring a variety of problems through the Thanksgiving weekend.

Forecasters predict significant snow in the mountain passes with snow levels as low as 2,500 feet in the Cascade passes.

Strong southerly winds are also possible at times, especially near the coast and north interior.

A high-wind watch will be in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday for western Whatcom County, western Skagit County, Admiralty Inlet and San Juan County. A winter storm watch will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for the Cascades from Lewis county north to Whatcom county.

And a winter storm watch will be in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday for the Olympic Mountains.

Snow was expected in the Cascades and Olympics Tuesday night. Wednesday night and Thursday an additional 1 to 2 feet are possible in the Cascades and Olympics.

And more snow is likely Friday through Monday. Meteorologists advise that forecasts should be monitored closely through the holiday weekend
