Four Bulldogs scored in double figures as Montesano defeated the Tenino Beavers 71-43 on Tuesday in Montesano.

Led by senior point guard Braden Dohrmann’s 17 points, Montesano (13-5 overall, 6-0 Evergreen 1A) pulled away from Tenino (5-11, 0-5) by outscoring the Beavers 23-9 in the second quarter.

With a scrappy Tenino team leading 14-10 after the first quarter, Monte rallied to take a 15-14 lead on a three by Dohrmann and the Bulldogs were off to the races.

Monte made the most of its opportunities in the second quarter, largely due to a combination of an aggressive trapping defense, relentless rebounding and a high-octane fast-break offense.

With 5:38 left in the first half, Dohrmann scored on a layup and was fouled. The senior guard missed the free throw, but teammate Trace Ridgway grabbed the rebound and scored to complete a four-point swing and give Monte a 19-14 lead.

After Ridgway collected his own rebound and scored to make it a 21-14 game with approximately 5:00 left in the quarter.

Carter Olsen buried a 3-pointer to push Monte’s lead to double digits at 26-16 with 3:30 to go.

But Monte wasn’t done yet as Caydon Lovell scored on the fast break after a Monte steal and Olsen hit another three a little over a minute later to give the Bulldogs a 31-18 lead with 1:58 left in the first half.

Two free throws by Dohrmann put an exclamation point on Monte’s big second quarter, extending the Bulldogs’ lead to 33-23 at the break.

Monte kept the pedal to the metal in the third quarter, outscoring the shell-shocked Beavers 26-6 in the frame to take a 59-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Aside from Dohrmann’s 17 points, Ridgway (13 points), Olsen (12 pts.), and Cole Daniels (10 pts.) finished in double figures.

Logan Brewer led Tenino with 20 points.

The win gives Monte a commanding lead in the 1A Evergreen League. The Bulldogs currently have a 2-1/2 game lead over Forks and Elma, which are tied for second place.
