GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL
Ilwaco 46, Raymond 32
For the first 16 minutes of the game, the Raymond Seagulls had a great shot at beating league-rival Ilwaco and walking away with first place and a likely Pacific League title to boot.
Then the second half game, and the Fishermen were having none of it.
Ilwaco blitzed the Seagulls over the final two quarters of the game to pick up a critical 46-32 victory over Raymond on Friday at Ilwaco High School.
Raymond (16-2 overall, 14-2 Pacific 2B) held an 8-3 lead after one period and a slim 18-16 lead after a first half where the Seagulls kept Ilwaco’s standout and reigning league MVP Erika Glenn to just nine points.
But the Fishermen (17-1, 16-0), and Glenn in particular, turned up the heat in the second half. Glenn scored 21 of her game-high 30 points after the break as Ilwaco seized control of the game with a 19-10 third quarter.
Down by 16 in the final minutes of the game, Raymond emptied its bench.
Gardner scored 13 points as she was hampered by Ilwaco defenders the entire night, similar to their first meeting back on Jan. 3.
No other Seagull scored more than six points in the contest as Raymond shot just 20% on 10-of-50 shooting.
Raymond also committed 31 turnovers in the game, which greatly contributed to the loss according to Seagulls head coach Jason Koski.
“In the second half, we weren’t able to rebound or find Glenn on the offensive end and she erupted in the second half,” he said. “Add to that losing the turnover battle 31-6, and shooting 20% for the game, and you get beat by a better team tonight.”
The win puts Ilwaco two games up on Raymond for the top spot in the league, and with just one week left in the regular season, and likely gives the Fishermen the 2B Pacific League title.

WF West 54, Aberdeen 48
Aberdeen climbed out of a double-digit deficit to get to within two points, but it was WF West that made the plays in the end to beat the Bobcats 54-48 on Friday in Aberdeen.
Down 40-27 midway through the third quarter, Aberdeen (6-12, 2-6 Evergreen 2A) began to chip away at the lead. Andrew Troeh hit a 3-pointer followed by a Gio Pisani bank shot to cut the lead to 10 at 44-34 with a minute to go in the quarter.
The Bobcats continued to cut away at the Bearcats lead in through the fourth quarter, nearly catching WF West (13-5, 6-2) when Pisani hit a three to make it a 48-46 ballgame.
After Bearcat Tyler Speck scored off an offensive rebound, Pisani struck again, hitting a mid-range jump shot to cut the lead to 50-48.
But Aberdeen would get no closer as Kayden Kelly scored on the Bearcats’ next possession and Aberdeen would turn the ball over on its next two possessions, forcing the Bobcats to foul the rest of the way.
Pisani led all scorers with 20 points, 15 of those coming in the second half.
Wyatt Johnson added 14 points for the Bobcats.
WF West was led by Carter McCoy and Cade Haller, who scored 17 and 10 points apiece.

Hoquiam (5-11, 1-4 Evergreen 1A) managed just 10 points total over the second and third quarters as the Grizzlies couldn’t find the bottom of the net.
“We had some good looks, we just missed shots,” explained Hoquiam head coach Curtis Eccles, whose team shot 9-for-40 (23%) on the night. “It was just one of those nights where the ball just didn’t fall through the hoop.”
Hoquiam went a combined 3-for-26 in the second and third quarters that saw the Grizzlies score six and four points, respectively.
Dane McMillan was the lone Grizzlies player to score in double figures with 11 points, including going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
