Two Hoquiam teens were arrested Sunday night in connection with the robbery near the West End Park in Aberdeen, when a woman’s purse was taken during an encounter that involved the purchase of vaping products, police said.
A 39-year-old woman initially reported to Hoquiam police that her purse containing cash was stolen during a vehicle purchase, according to Aberdeen police, which released the details of the case. West End Park is in Aberdeen, but near the city line. She told police the suspects grabbed the purse and ran from the area of the West End Park toward the Grocery Outlet where they got into a gray Acura, police said.
A Hoquiam officer found the car in the 500 block of Eklund Avenue with young males inside. The victim was brought to the location where she identified the males as the suspects who stole her purse, according to police.
During interviews, police determined that the purchase involved vaping products, not a vehicle as the victim had reported. The victim’s purse and cash were not located, police said. The investigation continues.
