Wahkiakum 70, Raymond 62

Raymond’s season came to a close on Tuesday with a 70-62 loss to Wahkiakum at Wahkiakum High School.

Down by four at the half, 37-33, after playing the Mules even in the second quarter, Raymond (6-15 overall) played well in front of a charged-up Wahkiakum home crowd, but couldn’t overcome the Mules’ long-range shooting.

“We put up a fight this evening in a hostile environment,” Raymond head coach Derek Rask said. “The gym was loud and the fans were fantastic. I thought our kids were up for the challenge and we executed pretty well for most of the game.”

Raymond was led by standout sophomore Tre’ Seydel, who scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game.

“Tre’ had to work for every point he scored,” Rask said.

Joseph Villalpando and McCartney Maden added 14 points each for the Seagulls.

The Mules (13-8) were led by Jake Lietz and Brody Carlson, who scored 30 and 16 points, respectively.

“Our goal this evening was to guard the 3-point line well. For the most part we did,” Rask said. “But any time we lost their primary shooters, they made us pay.”

Rask thanked his seniors for all they’ve done for the Raymond program in their time in a Seagulls uniform.

“I’d like to thank our seniors, Brian Sida, McCartney Maden, Audison Phimmasone and Mason Crawford for their contributions to our program,” he said. “We appreciate their efforts and we will miss them as they move on.”

Adna 83, North Beach 43

North Beach saw Adna quickly take a double-digit lead and the Hyaks never recovered in an 83-43 loss in a 2B District 4 play-in game on Tuesday in Adna.

The Pirates (12-9) hit their first three shots, all being 3-pointers, and jumped out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter.

North Beach (6-15) rallied to score eight straight points to climb back into the game, but Adna kept the Hyaks at bay, holding an 11 point lead at the end of the quarter and a commanding 41-22 lead at halftime.

Led by Chase Collins’ 27 points and Braden Thomas, who scored 20 in the game, Adna increased its lead to 68-32 by the end of the third quarter to put the game away and end North Beach’s season.

“This was a tough game for the Hyaks,” North Beach head coach Larry Moore said. “We gathered our composure (after Adna’s 18-0 run to start the game) and cut the lead down but just couldn’t find our shooting range.”

Kyle Fry led North Beach with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Reagan Harnagy had eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Tre’Vaughn Greene also had eight points and Josh Bighead dished out three assists to go along with three steals for North Beach.

“I am proud of how the kids competed,” Moore said. “I want to thank the seniors for all of their hard work. They were a pleasure to coach.”

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

Wishkah Valley 50, WA School for the Deaf 21

Wishkah Valley’s defense recorded 26 steals and held the Washington School for the Deaf to less than 10 points in each quarter en route to a 50-21 victory in the first round of the 1B Girls District 4 Tournament on Tuesday at Montesano High School.

Erica Bomhoff led the Loggerettes with 18 points and seven steals while Brooke Haskey had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Baylee Buchanan added 11 points for Wishkah and Alana Evensen scored four points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had six steals for the Loggerettes.

Janet Tuz-Manrique and Jennifer Tudor led WASD with nine and six points, respectively.
