Hoquiam couple charged with rape of a child

A Hoquiam area couple faces charges of sexual assault involving a 5-year-old child.

Rachael Elizabeth Cox, 20, and her husband, Jeremiah Thomas Cox, 40, were arrested without incident Oct. 1, 2019, by the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, according to court documents filed in late February.

According to those reports, the victim had undergone a forensic interview conducted by an out-of-state agency after allegedly telling her mother about a sex offense that happened at the couple’s residence. The results of that interview were forwarded to the Hoquiam Police Department and passed to the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple made their preliminary appearance in Grays Harbor County District Court Feb. 27. Rachael Cox is charged with first-degree rape of a child, Jeremiah Cox second-degree rape of a child. Both are free on $50,000 bond. Jeremiah Cox was arraigned in Superior Court March 2 and is scheduled for a jury trial May 27. Rachael Cox is scheduled for a review hearing in Superior Court March 9.
