Parents are being urged to make plans for school closures ahead of a meeting between Grays Harbor Public Health officials and the county’s school districts on Friday to discuss their response to the coronavirus outbreak.

“The situation is rapidly evolving and our response needs to be adjusted,” said Aberdeen superintendent Alicia Henderson.

The meeting was planned a day after it was announced that Seattle schools would close for a minimum of two weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak, and Public Health confirmed the county’s first confirmed case of COVID-19.

Henderson stressed the importance of planning for school closures including issues like child care, food service, remote learning and support for all staff.

She’s also reaching out to the city to see what kind of local efforts can be undertaken to support students, families and staff during a potential school closure.
