Hoquiam’s 2020 Honor Grads

Hoquiam High School is recognizing 16 Honor Grads for 2020. These are the seniors who are graduating with cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or better.

Hoquiam High School is recognizing 16 Honor Grads for 2020. These are the seniors who are graduating with cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or better.

1. Lily Darrin

Co-Valedictorian

Lily Darrin, daughter of Phil and Tammy Darrin of Hoquiam, is co-valedictorian. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her high school years. She has lettered in band and played an active role in drama since her freshman year. She also has been part of YMCA Leadership all four years. She has done volunteer work at the Hoquiam Timberland Library and the YMCA, as well as through Food Ball. Lily is in the Running Start program and plans to attend the University of Washington in the fall, with an eye toward becoming a conservation biologist.

1. Gracie Thomsen

Co-Valedictorian

Gracie Thomsen, daughter of Wendy Thomsen of Hoquiam and Jeff Thomsen of Olympia, is graduating with a 4.0 GPA. As a Running Start student at Grays Harbor College, she also will receive an Associate of Arts from Grays Harbor College this season. Gracie has received several outstanding letters as a “band overachiever.” In addition, she has participated in Knowledge Bowl, the Highly Capable Program, Band Buddies, the PLU Honor Band and the All State Honor Band. She volunteered with the Hoquiam Timberland Library and at her church’s Vacation Bible School. Gracie intends to go to the University of Washington for a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, and possibly go on to graduate school for a master’s.

3. Cameron Bumstead

Cameron Bumstead is the son of Jamie and Lewis Bumstead. He plans to attend Sacramento State to study physical therapy. His goal is to establish his own practice in sports medicine. Cameron played football, basketball, and soccer and was involved in the Lions Club Salmon Feed, Food Ball, Blood Drive, and Honor Society. He was on the Principal’s Honor Roll and received a Student of the Month Award. Cameron was honored as WIAA Player, Max Preps, and Oly Pen Player of the Week. He was also named the Evergreen League Offensive MVP, was on the All-State First Team for football, and was a First Team defensive back and point guard.

4. Carsyn Munger

Carsyn Munger, daughter of Chris and Lisa Munger of Hoquiam, is chapter president of the National Honor Society and the Hoquiam School Board’s student representative. She has been a WIAA All Academic in both cheer and volleyball. She’s earned four varsity letters in cheer and is team captain. She also volunteers with Hoquiam Youth Cheer during the summer. In volleyball, she has three varsity letters and received the Coaches Award last year. She is set to graduate with a 3.95 GPA and enter Oregon State University this fall for a degree in business with an emphasis in interior design. After college, she plans to obtain a real estate license.

5. Fabiana Mora-Lamperein

Fabiana Mora-Lamperein is the daughter of Simon Mora-Lamperein and Inneshka Radomska. Her plan is to attend the University of Washington, and her career goal is to work within international relations and/or as a fashion stylist. Her major activity focus has been classical ballet, and her honors include a Grizzly Award, Adjudications Award, and Music Olympics Honors.

6. Sage Chesterman

Sage Chesterman is the son of Cinnamon and Jon Chesterman. He plans to attend either Central Washington University or the University of Washington to pursue a degree that will lead to a career in the field of physics or astrophysics. His activities include marching band, Knowledge Bowl, Hope Squad, ASL Club, Bowling League, Band Buddies, Band Leadership and Boy Scouts. Sage was also named Student of the Month, received two Grizzly Awards, lettered in band, and received two Outstanding Band letters.

7. Rory Bray

Rory Bray is the son of Rick and Oradee Bray. His plans are to attend Grays Harbor College and then transfer to the University of Washington, where he intends to major in computer science. Rory is a member of the National Honor Society.

8. Kaleb Tarnowski

Kaleb Tarnowski is the son of Gabe and Christina Tarnowski. He will complete his Running Start work at Grays Harbor College and then transfer to Western Governors University to obtain bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting and eventually obtain a CPA license. His volunteer activities include Food Ball, Horse Prayer, PAWS and Grays Harbor Health Rehab. He received a Student of the Month Award and was on the honor roll.

9. Taylor Rae Strom

Taylor Rae Strom, daughter of Rick and Karen Strom of Hoquiam, is ASB president and captain of the soccer and track teams. She’s a four-year participant in soccer, basketball and track; an American sign language tutor; a WyldLife youth leader; and a past chair of Food Ball and the annual HHS blood drive. The 2019 Loggers Playday queen is currently helping to make medical field masks for donation. After graduating with honors in June, Taylor plans to attend Grays Harbor College for a year or two, then transfer to Eastern Washington University to pursue a degree in physical therapy.

10. Alexis Ambrocio-Albino

Alexis Ambrocio-Albino is the daughter of Juan Ambrocio Chora and Maria Carmen Ambrocio. She plans to attend Washington State University or Central Washington University to major in biology. Her career plan is to become a small animal veterinarian. Her activities include Girls Golf and Woodshop for play and musical productions. Alexis was a part of the National Honor Society and received awards as Student of the Month, Outstanding Scholastic Sports, and Grizzly Awards.

11. Magdelena Mazariegos

Magdelena Mazariegos is the daughter of Danielle Weidman and Angel Mazariegos. After graduation she will attend Grays Harbor College, where she plans to earn her BSN and then transfer to Eastern Washington University to become a neonatal nurse. Magdelena was involved in volleyball, soccer, basketball, Grizzly Fusion and Honor Society, and served as wrestling manager. Her awards include Most Valuable Player for volleyball, WIAA Honorable Mention, Outstanding Scholar Awards, Student of the Month, and Homecoming Princess.

12. Emilio Monahan

Emilio Monahan, son of Bill Monahan and Karol Rivera-Monahan of Hoquiam, is a senior at Hoquiam High School and a Running Start student at Grays Harbor College. Emilio, 18, has received accolades for his volunteer work at the Dispute Resolution Center of Grays Harbor and Pacific County. He currently serves as teen liaison in the DRC’s “We’re in This Together” program, for which he also designed the logo. His artwork has earned awards in two major local competitions, and he intends one day to teach college-level art and art history. Emilio also is receiving his Associate of Arts this month as a GHC honor grad. He is transferring to the University of Washington this fall to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree.

13. Benjamin Estes

Benjamin Estes is the son of Kurt and Carla Estes. He will attend Grays Harbor College, majoring in forest resource management. He plans to follow in his dad’s footsteps by becoming a forester. He has been involved in football, basketball, soccer (serving as varsity team captain), Grizzly Fusion and Honor Society. He has received the WIAA Outstanding Scholar Athlete award, the Varsity Football ACE award, Soccer’s Most Inspirational Award, Grizzly Award, Evergreen First Team Linebacker award, and Student of the Month.

14. Marcus Wilson

Marcus Wilson is the son of Mike and Tracy Wilson. Marcus intends to study at the Northwest Carpenter’s Institute of Washington, with plans to become a journeyman carpenter and start his own business. His activities include jazz band, marching band, concert band and track. Marcus lettered in band and track, and he was a member of the National Honor Society.

15. Annette Alejandre

Annette Alejandre is the daughter of Lucy Ortega and Juan Alejandre. Annette plans to attend Washington State University to pursue a career as an interpreter. She participated in volleyball, cheer, Drama Club, fastpitch softball, Honor Society and Leadership. Her awards include Miss Grays Harbor, Living Your Platform Scholarship, and Scholastic Achievement for volleyball.

16. Keegan Stigall

Keegan Stigall is the son of April and Sam Stigall. His college plans are to attend Grays Harbor College and transfer to Central Washington University to become a music teacher or musician. Keegan’s activities include band, jazz band, Band Buddies, marching band, Honor Society and Running Start. His awards include an Outstanding Letter in band, Student of the Month award and Musicianship awards.
