The Aberdeen High School Class of 2020 kicked off graduation night Friday with a parade through downtown to Stewart Field.
There were more than 200 spots in the parade, which started at the Shoppes at Riverside at 6 p.m. Participating vehicles with seniors and their families were assigned a spot in the parade, which was led by Aberdeen police and fire vehicles.
Wearing their caps and gowns, students milled around the parking lot of the mall, getting photos and catching up with classmates.
Some of the vehicles were elaborately decorated with senior banners, balloons and signs. One family attended in a limousine, and there were several classic cars in the lineup.
Spectators with signs of support lined the streets as the parade made its way across the Chehalis River Bridge into downtown Aberdeen, past the high school and finally to Stewart Field, the traditional AHS graduation night spot.
At the field, graduates were able to pick up their diploma covers and pose for photos with their immediate families.
The ceremony at Stewart Field was live-streamed on the school district’s Facebook page by Rick Moyer of Moyer Multi Media. Speeches were aired on high school radio station KAHS so they could be heard in the parade vehicles and they wound through town.
