James William Miller, 82, of Hoquiam, passed away on Aug. 5, 2020 at his home in Hoquiam.

Jim was born in Hedrick, Iowa to Frederick and Mary Miller on April 6, 1938. In 1943, he moved to Port Angeles. He attended school in both Port Angeles and Sequim. He joined the Army and served from 1955 until 1958. He joined the Navy in 1959 and served until 1963. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal in December of 1962. After the Navy, he came to Grays Harbor. He married Patricia Shedd in 1973, but they later divorced. Jim worked as a truck driver for over 40 years mostly for Pat Rabey Trucking Inc., a job that he loved.

Jim enjoyed cooking and canning (especially pickles). He looked forward to delivering homemade “Christmas Goodies” to friends and family during the holidays. He loved reading, working on word searches, hunting, mowing his yard and tinkering on things in his garage. He always had a story to tell and some advice to give to whomever would listen.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis. Jim is survived by his son, Matthew (Cindy) Miller of Cosmopolis; his daughter, Cheryl (Jeff) Potter of Kents Store, Virginia; his sisters, Donna Davis of Hoquiam and Barbara Ross of Port Angeles; and his grandchildren, Colby and Kyle Miller and Kessler and Annika Potter.

At his request, there will be no service.
