Many Harbor holiday traditions are being canceled this year because of COVID-19 restrictions. Santa by the Sea in Westport and the Festival of Lights in Montesano are among the casualties.

But the annual tree lighting ceremony in Pacific Beach will go on this weekend — with a few changes.

“Due to social distancing and the safety of our crew and others, we won’t be doing the reading of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas or serving cookies and cocoa,” said Stephanie Allestad, fire commissioner and public information officer for Grays Harbor Fire District 8. “We are asking folks to remain in their cars, which we’ll guide to park.”

The lighting will take place shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday at 42 Main St. in Pacific Beach.
