Sheriff’s Office K9 officer Max retires

Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer Max has earned his much deserved retirement after more than eight years on the force, according to Undersheriff Brad Johansson.

Max and Sgt. Tracy Gay became a certified patrol dog team in March of 2013. They obtained master handler status in 2014.

“While serving citizens and law enforcement in Grays Harbor and surrounding counties Max has captured nearly 150 suspects and sustained an incredible capture rate of 60 percent,” said Johansson. “Max has always been a fan favorite at the fair and community events. The deputies are really sad to see him go but are happy that he gets to retire in the comfort of Deputy Gay’s home.”

A plaque was presented to Gay and Max by Sheriff Rick Scott that read, “Thank you for your 8-plus years of service and dedication to the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office and to the citizens of Grays Harbor County.”

The Sheriff’s Office is currently screening new K-9s, said Johansson. “The demands are high and we are looking for only the best. We will keep you informed on the progress.”
