The COVID-19 death total in Grays Harbor County has reached 40, with eight deaths reported since Feb. 1.

The state Department of Health reported four deaths Feb. 2, one Feb. 3, and three Friday, Feb. 5. The 40 deaths account for 1.3% of the total number of positive cases in the county so far in the pandemic.

Death rates in the other three counties in the state’s COVID-19 roadmap to recovery west region — Pacific, Lewis and Thurston — are consistent with Grays Harbor’s in the latest data from Friday: Eight deaths, rate per positive case 1.2%; 41 deaths, rate per positive case 1.2%; and 69 deaths, rate 1.1% respectively.

Between Feb. 3 and Feb. 5, 21 new cases were reported in Grays Harbor County along with the three new deaths and three new hospitalizations. The county’s total hospitalizations since the pandemic started was at 148 Friday, up three from Wednesday’s report.

As of Feb. 3, the state is reporting 7,689 vaccinations have been given in the county; there were two mass vaccination events held in the county Thursday and Friday that were not included in that number. For the pandemic, 36,988 molecular COVID-19 tests have been given.
