Alan L. Lundgren died on Dec.18, 2016, at the age of 81 at Arrowhead Hospital in Peoria, Ariz., after a short illness.
Al was born on Dec. 23, 1934, to Erland and Hannah Lundgren in Milwaukee, Wis. He moved to Cudahy, Wis., when he was 13 years old, and worked with his father in the soda water business on weekends and summers until it sold in 1951. He moved to Westport with his parents and younger brother in June, 1952. He graduated from the old Ocosta High School in 1953.
Al worked in the seafood business most of his adult life. He became self-employed in 1970 when, along with his partner, Wayne Caldwell, they purchased Bay Fish Company. In 1977, he bought out his partner and operated the Bay Fish unloading station until selling it in 1998. He also owned and operated the Bay Fish Seafoods Cannery in Bay City until 1985. In 1991, he owned and operated Bay Seafoods Oyster Farm until he retired in 2003.
In 1966, Al married Kathleen Baird. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. They enjoyed their yearly trips to Maui and to Arizona, and especially their weekend getaways to their lake property in Shelton. Al enjoyed gardening, maintaining his equipment and reading.
Al was preceded in death by a son, Rodney; brothers Raymond, Robert and David. Al is survived by his wife, Kathleen; son Erik (Melissa) of University Place; daughter Amber of Ocosta; grandchildren Annalise Aiken and Nicklas Lundgren; and nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no funeral services. The family requests that any donations in Al’s memory be made to Paws Animal Shelter, 800 W. North St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.
