With candidate filing week now closed, a number of candidates — particularly on the Aberdeen and Ocean Shores city councils — will be focused on the Aug. 3 primary.
Ocean Shores will have two council races on the primary. Five candidates have filed for the Position 5 seat held by recently-appointed Councilwoman Lisa Scott: Scott, Patrick Daugherty, Robert M. Doering Jr., Edgar W. Schroll and Lorraine Hardin. Position 7 has three candidates: Patric Hayes, David Lynn and Rich Hartman.
In races with more than two candidates, the top-two in the primary will move on to face each other in the Nov. 2 general election.
Aberdeen has three primary races. The list of candidates for the open Aberdeen City Council Ward 4, Position 7 seat is four: Rebecca Sanchez, Tara M. Mareth, Marissa Aube, and Antara Croft. Current Ward 5, Position 10 Councilman Alan Richrod has two challengers, Debi Ann Pieraccini and Chelsey Leavenworth. There will also be a primary for Ward 1, Position 1, with three candidates: incumbent Melvin Taylor, Michael Trader and Kimberly Strom.
Two Westport council seats will require a primary: Position 1 will have incumbent Melissa Huerta facing Brylie James and Dennis Hall; in Position 2 it’s Brenna James, Troy Meyers and Tom Fleckenstein vying for the open seat.
Incumbent Oakville Mayor Angelo Cilluffo has two challengers, Bill Breedlove and Anthony Smith.
The 4 p.m. Friday filing deadline came and went without any challengers for the incumbents in the two countywide elections — Norma Tillotson, who filed as a Democrat (all other elections within the county are non-partisan) for County Prosecutor; and Stan Pinnick, who will retain his Port of Grays Harbor Commissioner 3 post for a fourth 6-year term.
In Hospital District 2, Melanie Sturgeon has filed to run against incumbent Andrew Bickar. Sturgeon was on the board previously in an at-large position but was defeated in 2019 by Scott Dilley.
