Montesano’s girls and Taholah’s boys fared well in the state’s first basketball Ratings Percentage Index standings that were released Friday.
The Bulldogs were ranked second among Class 1A girls teams. The Chitwhins were sixth in the boys 1B RPI standings.
Administered by the MaxPreps online service, the RPI index will be used by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association to seed regional qualifiers in late February. It is based on the team’s winning percentage, plus the winning percentages of its opponents and oppponents’ opponents.
Raymond’s girls were ranked 10th in the 2B category. Several area teams, including Life Christian Academy’s boys and Black Hills’ and Ilwaco’s girls, were second in their respective classifications.
The biggest surprise among Twin Harbors teams was the low ranking for Hoquiam’s boys. Although regarded as one of the top-1A teams in Southwest Washington, the Grizzlies were listed 43rd in their classification, due largely to unexpectedly poor records compiled by their non-league opponents.
The RPI rankings will be updated weekly through the end of the regular season. The top-ranked teams, plus Twin Harbors rankings:
