Vicki Lee Petitt, nee McGhee, of Elma, Washington, passed away on June 11, 2021, after a long illness.
Vicki was preceded in death by her father Richard Eugene McGee, mother Betty Ann McGhee and sister Sandi McGhee Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Steve Petitt, son Derek Van Dyke of Fircrest (wife Margy) and their children Megan and Matthew; son Ryan Petitt of Lacey and his son Jonah.
Vicki was born in Hoquiam on July 20, 1948.
Vicki retired after 38 years with the Coastal Community Action Program in Aberdeen. Vicki began her long career at CCAP in 1976 as a secretary, and retired as the program director for Housing and Community Services. Vicki was passionate about her work, and supported people in the Harbor by facilitating multiple programs to fight poverty at a local level.
Vicki’s children and grandchildren were her passion. While raising two boys and working full time, Vicki tirelessly volunteered at school and sporting events. She was president of multiple booster clubs and attended too many games and matches to count. After her children were grown, Vicki transferred that energy to her grandchildren. She was a strong presence in her grandchildren’s lives and was in attendance at multiple performances, games and swim meets.
Vicki didn’t let weather or illness slow her down and even showed up to birthday parties during snowstorms!
Vicki’s generous and giving spirit was evident in how she lived her life – always giving of herself to her community and family.
A memorial celebrating Vicki’s life will be held on July 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Aberdeen, Washington, followed by a private interment at Sunset Memorial Park, Hoquiam, Washington.
Vicki was an adventurous cook — generous, giving, a firecracker, loved her community, her family and pets. She always put others first.
Rest in peace love!
Arrangements are entrusted to Coleman Mortuary, Hoquiam, Washington.
