Five East County residents have each been awarded a $3,000 Mark E. Reed Scholarship

This is the 74th year that scholarships have been presented in the memory of Mark E. Reed, who was Simpson Logging Company president from 1914 until his death in 1933. Today, an eligible individual must be a Green Diamond employee, a son or daughter of an employee or reside in one of the company’s Washington operating communities.

Recipients:

• Molly Johnston, is a 2019 graduate of Elma High School and the daughter of Mark and Brenda Johnston. She attends Linfield College in Oregon and studies elementary education.

• Emily Kershaw attends the University of Washington School of Medicine and is a 2013 graduate of Elma High School. The daughter of Jim and Christi Kershaw is studying rural medicine.

• Kaelyn Burgher attends Western Washington University and studies elementary education. She is a 2020 graduate of Elma High School. She is the daughter of Jayson and Jessica Burgher.

• Leah Magrath, a 2007 graduate from Elma High School, attends Washington State University and studies veterinary medicine. Her parents are W. Jay and Susan Gordon.

• Jamison Carrell is a 2021 graduate of Elma High School. She plans to attend Washington State University to study pre-medicine. Jamison is the daughter of Clayton and Gwen Carrell.

Green Diamond Resource Company is a privately held forest products company with roots dating back to 1890. Today, the company owns working forest lands in Washington, Oregon, Montana and California.
