The Aberdeen girls swimming team picked up a victory as we take a look at Wednesday’s prep sports for Twin Harbors schools.
GIRLS PREP SWIMMING
Aberdeen 118, Eatonville 61
Aberdeen got a solid, all-around team effort in a 118-61 victory over Eatonville on Wednesday at the Grays Harbor YMCA in Hoquiam.
The Bobcats were led by seniors Katelyn Ancich and Kennedy Hatton and juniors Litzy Orona and Anna Matisons, each of whom placed first in races on Wednesday.
Ancich won the 1-meter dive competition with a score of 136.50, with teammate Saylor Heikkila finishing second with a score of 105.50..
Hatton won both the 50 and 200 yard freestyle races with times of 29.53 and 2:32.24, respectively. Her time in the 200 was an improvement of 3.55 seconds off her season-best.
Orona won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.89.
Matisons picked up victories in the 500 freestyle with a time of 7:21.79 and in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.80).
The Bobcats also fared well in two of the meet’s three relay races.
Aberdeen’s team of Keara Burns, Hatton, Orona and Mija Hood won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.80.
The Bobcats also won the 200 medley relay, with Orona, Matisons, Hood and Burns finishing with a time of 2:03.75.
Aberdeen head coach Tiffany Montoure complemented the way several members of her team stepped into roles they were unfamiliar with.
“Some girls who are new to the team stepped up and swam where they were needed without complaint,” she said. “We have a great team. (They are) so supportive of each other.”
GIRLS PREP SOCCER
Adna 5, Ocosta 0
Adna handed Ocosta a 5-0 loss in a 2B Pacific League girls soccer matchup on Wednesday in Adna.
Ocosta scored in the 16th, 18th, 42nd, 47th and 60th minutes.
Ocosta keeper Mia Saunders recorded 14 saves as the Pirates peppered the Wildcats goal with 31 shots.
“Adna is a senior dominated team and it showed tonight,” said Ocosta head coach Mike King who cited the overall play of Wildcats Trinity White, Kylee Denny and Natalie Carloza. “We worked hard and will gain experience from playing a good team.”
Ocosta (4-4 overall, 1-1 2B Pacific) faces Ilwaco at 6 p.m. on Monday at Ilwaco High School.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY
Local schools compete at Rainier meet
Ocosta, Raymond and Willapa Valley high schools had runners place in the top 10 at a cross country meet on Tuesday at Rainier Elementary School in Rainier.
Ocosta’s Dylan Todd was the top placer for Twin Harbors schools, taking second place in the boys race with a time of 18:20.17.
Todd’s teammates, Matthew and William Idso, placed fifth and sixth with times of 18:53.47 and 18:53.93, respectively.
Ocosta placed third overall with 53 points while Northwest Christian (44 points) took first and Rainier (48) placed second.
The girls 5K race featured impressive runs by a trio of local student-athletes.
Willapa Valley freshman Jasmine Solo posted a time of 24:35.51 to take fourth place and was followed closely behind by Raymond junior Genevieve Sarich (25:24.88) and Ocosta freshman Rebekah Stone (25:37.59), who placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Valley freshman Kaitlyn Ganzel also placed in the top 10, finishing 10th with a time of 27:22.01.
