A remote cabin near Oakville was destroyed by fire early Monday morning, but quick work by local fire agencies saved a nearby mobile home.

Grays Harbor Fire District 1, Grays Harbor Fire District 5 and Riverside Fire Authority (Centralia) responded to the fire at about 5:30 a.m. Monday. According to a District 1 statement, arriving firefighters found the cabin well involved with fire.

The cabin could not be saved, but a single-wide mobile home less than 20 feet away was saved as firefighters contained the blaze to the cabin itself.

“Firefighters worked hard to prevent (the mobile home) from becoming involved too,” read the statement. “Everyone did an outstanding job, it was great team work.”

There were no community members or firefighters injured as a result of this incident.

Because of the remote location, some of the fire apparatus had to be parked on Highway 12, and the district thanked the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department, the Washington State Patrol and the Washington State Department of Transportation “for keeping our guys safe along the highway.”
