Playoff implications abound as we take a look at Friday’s football action involving Twin Harbors schools.

Rochester 21, Aberdeen 8

Turnovers and missed opportunities in the red zone led Aberdeen’s 21-8 loss to Rochester on Friday at Rochester High School.

Aberdeen (4-3, 3-3 2A Evergreen) took an 8-7 lead in the first quarter when quarterback Kale Goings hit Isaiah Watson with a 7-yard touchdown pass.

Running back Jeremy Sawyer converted the two-point run to put the Bobcats up 8-7 with 4:59 left in the frame.

But Rochester (5-3, 3-2) responded with a touchdown in each of the next two quarters while Aberdeen failed to cash in on two red-zone trips, one that was hampered by an ill-timed false start penalty on a fourth-and-short play.

Compounding matters for the Bobcats were three turnovers and 82 yards in penalties.

“It’s pretty tough to win that way,” Aberdeen head coach Todd Bridge said. “Tonight, we shot ourselves in the foot so much we ran out of toes.”

Warriors running back Talon Betts carried the ball 26 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns.

Aberdeen was led by running back Jeremy Sawyer, who had 22 rushes for 103 yards.

Bobcats quarterback Kale Goings was 4-for-13 for 43 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

The Bobcats were outgained 222-191 in total yardage but held a 148-143 edge in rushing yardage.

Aberdeen faces a must-win game against Shelton next week to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Tenino 44, Elma 16

Elma struggled to stop No. 8 Tenino in a 44-16 loss on Friday in Elma.

Elma (3-3 overall, 1-2 1A Evergreen) took an early 7-0 lead on a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carter Studer to receiver Kyren Hackney in the first quarter.

Tenino (7-1, 3-1) responded with 22 straight points on three touchdown runs by Oregon State commit Takari Hickle.

The Eagles trimmed the deficit to 22-10 when kicker Canon Seaberg drilled a 42-yard field goal with 35 seconds left in the first half.

Elma got right back into the game when Tenino muffed the second-half kickoff and the Eagles recovered. A few plays later, Studer scored on a 1-yard run, cutting the Beavers lead to 22-16.

But that was as close as Elma would get as Tenino ran off 22 unanswered points on three more rushing touchdowns to hand Elma the 44-16 loss.

“We have a lot of young kids that played really hard, we just couldn’t stop the ball,” Elma head coach Ron Clark said.

The Eagles were without eight starters from its opening-day roster, including two of its top weapons in running back Conan Baxter (concussion, knee) and Jarred Bailey, who left in the second quarter due to an injury.

Elma was outgained 401-200 in total offense, with Tenino holding a 397-47 advantage in rushing yardage.

Studer was 8-for-17 for 153 yards and a touchdown.

René Duran caught three of those passes for a team-high 85 yards.

The loss means Elma will have to defeat Montesano at next week’s East County Rivalry matchup to earn a playoff spot.

Raymond-South Bend 34, Rainier 12

Raymond-South Bend picked up a much-needed victory with a 34-12 victory over Rainier on Friday at Rainier High School.

RSB (2-6, 2-4 2B Pacific) led throughout the game, opening the scoring on a 15-yard TD pass from quarterback Austin Snodgrass to receiver Daniel Medeiros.

The Ravens took a 19-6 lead at the half when Snodgrass hit tight end Robby Stigall with a 31-yard touchdown pass and running back Ty Reidinger scored on an 11-yard run in the second quarter.

RSB just about put the game out of reach when linebacker Skyler Hutson returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown to put the Ravens up 26-6 10 seconds into the second half.

After Rainier cut the lead to 26-12 with a third-quarter TD pass, Hutson scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter to put RSB up 34-12 with just over 10 minutes left in the game.

Snodgrass was 5-for-10 passing for 96 yards, two TDs and an interception.

Hutson rushed for 57 yards on 12 carries with Reidinger carrying the ball 21 times for 55 yards.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Ravens.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 43, Ilwaco 0

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley all but locked up third place in the 2B Pacific League with a 43-0 victory over Ilwaco on Friday in Ilwaco.

The Titans (5-3 overall, league) grounded the Fishermen early, with running back Blake Howard scoring a pair of first quarter rushing touchdowns to go up 14-0.

PWV blew the game open in the second quarter, scoring 22 points off two TD passes from quarterback Tyler Adkins — a 19-yarder to Koltin Fluke and a 69-yard score to Joseph Krafczyk — a 5-yard run by Wil Clements and a safety.

A 27-yard TD run from Derek Fluke rounded out the scoring at 43-0.

Howard led the Titans with 83 yards on eight carries while Derek Fluke had 74 yards on seven carries for a PWV team that totalled 261 rushing yards.

Adkins went 3-for-4 for 93 yards and a pair of touchdown passes as PWV had 354 total yards on just 36 plays.

Ilwaco (2-4, 1-4) managed just 56 yards of offense against a PWV defense that had a fumble recovery and two sacks — one each by defensive linemen Garrett and Conner Keeton.

Lake Quinault 44, Mary M. Knight 38

Lake Quinault won its second consecutive home game with a 44-38 victory over Mary M. Knight on Saturday.

The Elks (2-2, 2-1 1B Coastal – 8 man) took a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on a 15-touchdown run by Grady Fowler followed by a 30-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Jesse Ferry to Agustin Hermosillo.

Ferry hit Wyatt Holland for a 25-yard touchdown in the second quarter and the Elks scored in the third quarter on a touchdown by Charles Gumecindo.

Elks tailback Cody Perry also scored a touchdown in the game as well as recording an interception on the defensive end fo the field.

Ferry also intercepted a pass in Saturday’s win.

“We have come a long way since the season has started. With our inexperienced team. many kids didn’t know what to do or how to play the sport. But after a while they started to catch on more and more,” Ferry said. “I’m glad we got to have a season this year because I love the sport and, over time, we will hopefully be able to encourage younger kids to play, giving the school a fighting football team every year.”
